Job Description
Planning & Control Manager – S&OP and S&OE Transformation
Derby
Full time – Secondment until December 2027
We have an exciting secondment opportunity until December 2027 to transform how Civil Aerospace plans and executes across the Sales and Operational Planning (S&OP) and Sales and Operations Execution (S&OE) processes.
This role is dedicated to leading and implementing S&OP and S&OE transformation for the XWB Value Stream. You will be the Value Stream lead point of contact, working with the central S&OP and S&OE teams, business transformation leads and external consulting support to design, implement and embed sustainable change.
The roadmap includes developing process capability and tactical Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), supporting Advanced Planning System (APS) deployment, strengthening digital and data foundations, and establishing an effective operating model that connects strategic planning with short-term operational execution.
Purpose of the role
Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) enables coordinated end-to-end commercial, operational, supply chain and financial planning. S&OE turns that plan into executable near-term priorities by exposing variation, risks and imbalances early, enabling timely intervention, escalation and decision-making.
Within the XWB Value Stream, you will help the team clearly articulate what has changed, why it matters, where demand and supply no longer balance, the operational and financial consequences, the available options and the decisions required. You will connect S&OP outputs into S&OE execution and ensure S&OE learning, risks and changes are fed back into future planning cycles.
The role will coordinate Value Stream contributions to the wider Civil S&OE transformation while ensuring that improvements are embedded locally, sustained through governance and underpinned by clear accountabilities, reliable management information and effective decision rights.
Rolls-Royce is undertaking a multi-year transformation programme to revolutionise its SIOP process, enhancing transparency, agility and decision-making. The transformation aims to deliver connected, live data insights for executive leadership, driving optimised operational and financial outcomes.
What you will be doing:
- S&OP and S&OE transformation: Shape and drive an integrated planning and execution transformation roadmap for the XWB Value Stream, balancing tactical delivery with the longer-term operating model.
- Act as the XWB Value Stream transformation and integration lead, coordinating with central teams, business leads and external partners to design, implement and embed changes.
- Develop process capabilities, tactical MVPs, digital solutions and data strategy, including deployment and optimisation of APS and scenario-planning capability.
- S&OE operating model and governance: Define and embed the Value Stream contribution to the S&OE operating model, including cross-business interfaces, governance levels, meeting charters, information flow, escalation routes and links to financial forecasting.
- Establish and maintain clear RACI and RAPID decision rights for key processes and change-control decisions as well as demand-and-supply trade-offs.
- Support recurring weekly S&OE governance, ensuring priority risks, issues, dependencies, decisions and help required are visible, owned and escalated at the appropriate level.
- Coordinate the Value Stream sprint plan, agreeing deliverables, success measures, accountable leads and target dates, tracking delivery and using lessons learned to improve each transformation cycle.
- Operational execution and intervention: Work with Fleet Management, Value Stream, Aftermarket Operations, Procurement, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to identify and resolve near-term demand, supply, capacity and execution imbalances.
- Support gated-process improvements across removal planning, induction readiness, kitting, repair and parts availability, including early risk identification, root-cause analysis and recovery actions.
- Develop and embed effective change control, prioritisation and scenario assessment so that decisions optimise fleet health, customer outcomes, output, cash, profit and inventory.
- Translate S&OE execution risks and intervention outcomes into clear assumptions, sensitivities and actions for subsequent S&OP cycles.
- Data, MI and continuous improvement: Define, develop and embed the Value Stream S&OE KPI and management-information suite, with clear ownership, executive data sources, governance forums and connectivity between measures.
- Drive data quality and process compliance, reduce manual manipulation and strengthen business continuity for critical reports and tools.
- Use trending, cause-code analysis and root-cause insight to identify systemic improvement opportunities and ensure interventions are tracked to closure.
- Promote a proactive, problem-solving culture and periodically review governance and meeting effectiveness to sustain improvements.
- Stakeholder leadership: Build trusted cross-functional relationships and influence senior stakeholders across Fleet Management, Central Planning, Portfolio Planning, Aftermarket Operations, Procurement, Engineering, Value Streams and Manufacturing Units.
- Prepare concise executive-level updates, recommendations and decision material for Value Stream, SVP and Civil leadership reviews.
Position Qualifications:
- Proven experience leading SIOP, S&OP and/or S&OE processes in a manufacturing or other complex operational environment preferred.
- Experience leading transformation, continuous-improvement or integration activity across multiple functions and business areas.
- Strong understanding of demand-and-supply balancing, operational planning, gated execution processes and structured escalation.
- Expertise in planning tools within ERP environments, such as MRP, and familiarity with Advanced Planning Systems and scenario modelling.
- Proficiency in data analysis and management, including executive data sets, KPI design, trend analysis and root-cause insight.
- Ability to define and embed operating models, governance, meeting charters, accountabilities and decision rights using RACI and/or RAPID approaches.
- Robust organisational, analytical, programme-management and decision-making capability, including sprint-based delivery and action tracking.
- Demonstrated leadership presence and the ability to influence senior stakeholders within a matrix organisation.
- Experience creating executive-level presentations and communicating complex operational and business topics clearly.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to guide stakeholders and drive timely decisions.
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience of S&OP and S&OE transformation and implementing new planning, execution or governance capabilities.
- Experience of balancing demand, supply, capacity, inventory and customer outcomes across complex value streams.
- Experience of Advanced Planning System implementation, digital transformation or executive reporting automation.
- Experience of operational governance across removals, induction, kitting, repair, parts supply or engine output.
- Experience working across commercial, operations, supply chain, engineering and finance functions.
