Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Engineer 3 with 5–8 years of software development experience to build, enhance, test, and support scalable applications, APIs, automation solutions, and cloud-native services. The ideal candidate will have strong Java and/or Python programming experience, practical knowledge of databases and CI/CD pipelines, and a solid understanding of secure and reliable software development. The candidate will work with business, Quality Assurance, and technical teams to understand requirements, deliver maintainable features, troubleshoot production issues, and improve application performance and reliability. This role is suited for a strong developer who can work independently on assigned solutions and is building the technical breadth and ownership needed to progress toward an E4 role.

Job Description

 

Application Development and Design 

• Develop and enhance software applications, APIs, automation solutions, and platform services based on defined business and technical requirements. 

• Apply object-oriented programming, common design patterns, and secure coding practices to create maintainable solutions. 

• Translate functional requirements into technical tasks, implement features, and create unit and integration tests. 

• Participate in technical discussions and contribute practical recommendations for implementation, integration, and deployment. 

Software Engineering and Automation 

• Develop and maintain Java and Python applications, APIs, and platform services. 

• Build, maintain, and continuously improve the automation platform and existing workflows. 

• Design and improve CI/CD pipelines using Concourse, Jenkins, or similar tools. 

• Build cloud-native and containerized solutions using Kubernetes and AWS. 

• Apply SQL and NoSQL data stores appropriately and write efficient, maintainable queries. 

• Use shell scripting and AI tools responsibly to improve development, automation, troubleshooting, and team productivity. 

Production Ownership and Reliability 

• Troubleshoot incidents, perform root-cause analysis, support releases, and implement reliability improvements. 

• Use logs, metrics, alerts, and operational data to identify defects, improve performance, and reduce recurring issues. 

• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to maintain platform availability and reliability. 

• Provide support outside regular work hours when required for team and operational needs. 

• Maintain accurate technical and operational documentation. 

Development Collaboration 

• Work with product, business, and technical stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver assigned features. 

• Partner with Quality Assurance to validate functionality, resolve defects, and meet agreed quality standards. 

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, provide clear development updates, and complete work within sprint commitments. 

• Create and maintain clear technical, deployment, and operational documentation. 

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience. 

• Typically, 5–8 years of hands-on software development experience. 

• Strong programming experience in Java and/or Python, including object-oriented programming, exception handling, collections, testing, debugging, and performance tuning. 

• Experience developing REST APIs, backend services, batch processes, and automation scripts. 

• Experience with Java frameworks such as Spring or Spring Boot and Python libraries or frameworks used for application development and automation. 

• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and efficient query development. 

• Knowledge of shell scripting, Git, automated testing, and common software development practices. 

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerized applications, and AWS or another public cloud platform. 

• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Concourse, Jenkins, or similar platforms. 

• Experience troubleshooting application issues, analyzing logs and metrics, and supporting production releases. 

• Ability to use AI tools responsibly to improve coding, testing, automation, documentation, and troubleshooting. 

• Good communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience improving application, service, database, or platform performance. 

• Experience with Scala is considered an added advantage. 

• Experience working with high-volume transactional data and performing analysis across large or complex tables. 

• Experience creating reusable automation scripts, utilities, or development workflows. 

• Exposure to cloud capacity, cost, security, and reliability considerations.
