Organization's Summary Statement:

The Associate Director (AD) is a full-time, 12-month professional track faculty position providing administrative, instructional, and academic leadership for the College Park Scholars Arts program, a premier two-year undergraduate living-learning community for first- and second-year students. We seek a passionate, creative, highly organized, and dependable professional to join our team. Reporting directly to the Program Director, the Associate Director will drive innovative curriculum design, execute experiential programming, engage in strategic planning, deliver classroom instruction, and cultivate community partnerships. Working closely with the Director, the AD fosters an active, inclusive learning environment that empowers students to explore cultural diversity, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the vast educational resources of the University of Maryland and the surrounding region. The position requires some flexibility for work outside of normal business hours, including weekends.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruction & Academic Programming

  • Advance innovative curriculum development and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants.

Program Administration & Operations

  • Provide robust logistical, operational, and organizational support for signature program events, including Field Trips, Service Day, Academic Showcase, and ArtsFest.
  • Manage daily administrative office tasks, fiscal tracking, and program communications.
  • Coordinate guest artist residencies and guest faculty engagements.

Student Engagement & Advising

  • Schedule and conduct regular, proactive academic and developmental advising sessions for freshman and sophomore students.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative residential learning community.

Strategic Partnerships & Representation

  • Represent the Arts program at faculty meetings, college/university-sponsored events, and recruitment functions.
  • Cultivate and sustain strategic partnerships with campus departments, external arts organizations, and community stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A master’s degree and at least two years (four semesters) of teaching in higher education is required.

Highly preferred candidates will have earned their graduate degree in either education or an arts and humanities discipline and possess two or more years of professional experience in an arts-related field or organization. Ideal candidates will possess evidence of a significant body of critical and creative work in the arts or related field, a stellar record of teaching at the collegiate level, and evidence of leadership roles performed in higher education and/or professional settings.
