The Georgetown Learning Center (GLC) is King County Children, Youth and Young Adults Division’s (CYYAD) Reengagement Center focused on careers in the Trades. The GLC provides case management and education services to young people ages 16-24 years with focus on transitioning students to post-secondary pathways specifically in pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs, training, and employment services. The Georgetown Learning Center is a part of the Seattle College network and is one of four Reengagement Center’s operated by CYYAD. The three other sites are YouthSource Tukwila, Learning Center Seattle at Seattle Central College and Center for Education and Career Opportunity at Shoreline Community College.


This position will serve as the Employment Readiness Specialist/Occupational Education and Training Coordinator (OETC) at Georgetown Learning Center. The Employment Readiness Specialist positions provide job readiness training to CYYAD participants and plan, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate trainings and participant preparation. Work includes assisting young adults to identify career interests, develop resumes and cover letters, understand how to complete applications, understand how to interview for employment, and provide experiential learning opportunities such as job site tours, career panels, and more. This position will also span across the CYYAD reengagement centers and support the development of internship sites. The GLC site is specifically centering trades to family supporting wages. This position will also support the Youthworks initiative for the GLC site to support the network wide initiative for youth summer internships. This is a highly skilled instructional and administrative position working in partnership with the Case Management Team—reporting directly to the site Director for day-to-day operations. 

 

This recruitment is to fill two Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) position that are anticipated to end after 24 months. The first position will be located at Georgetown Learning Center (GLC) 6737 Corson Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108 and the second position will be located at YouthSource Tukwila Learning Center 645 Andover Park West, Tukwila, WA 98188. If filled by a King County employee who has passed their initial probation, the TLT will be as a Special Duty Assignment (SDA).

To be considered minimally qualified applicant must demonstrate a background that provides the knowledge, skills and ability to: 

  • Design and develop job readiness coursework and curricula: perform course analysis, write learning objectives; develop instruction and testing materials and visual aids. 
  • Develop internship sites, navigate paperwork and process necessary for this to be done including completing payroll packets, supervisor evaluations, etc. 
  • Work to ensure that internship programming is developed, standardized, and operational for the site and support for the systems wide work.
  • Conduct courses and provide workshops to CYYAD participants in job readiness, which includes but is not limited to career exploration, resume creation, cover letter development, job search training, job applications, interviewing techniques, communication, and other job relevant soft skills.
  • Evaluate and track student progress. Provide constructive feedback and supplemental individualized training, where needed.
  • Maintain and update a library of training and reference materials and additional employment workshops and resources.
  • Lead job development efforts for internship placements and manage relationships with external businesses. 
  • Other duties as assigned

WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO HAVE:

  • Bachelors’ degree in education, business, social work, or related field and/or equivalent related work experience. 
  • Experience working with youth or young adults in an employment or education environment. Education may be substituted with an appropriate level of experience/demonstrated ability to complete the job duties.
  • Familiarity working in College Systems or settings.
  • Familiarity with the King County, the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and DVR, or similar, funding streams as related to Internships.
  • Ability to build individual professional relationships with students quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex paperwork and meet quick deadlines.
  • Demonstrated skill in working and building rapport with youth and young adults from diverse cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic populations. 
  • Demonstrated teaching ability. 
  • Demonstrated employment industry knowledge, including but not limited to job search techniques, resume writing and interview skills. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of training and assessment methods, and knowledge of teaching methods and presentation techniques. 
  • Ability to effectively manage time to work on multiple tasks in high pressure/short deadline environment, and to adapt to changes in workload demand and priorities. 
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills, including conflict resolution techniques.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations involving youth with barriers to success in education and employment. 
  • Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with youth and employees from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. 
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers, with working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, 
  • Access, Outlook and the Internet. 
  • Ability to pass a Washington State Patrol Background check on a post offer/pre hire basis.

  • Knowledge of equity and social justice principles and practices, and understanding of the effects of place, race, and policy and system-based inequities on marginalized communities.

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:

  • This position has been designated Non-Mission. Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather.   • These positions with The King County Children, Youth and Young Adults Division’s (CYYAD) work onsite at Georgetown Learning Center (GLC) 6737 Corson Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108 and YouthSource Tukwila Learning Center 645 Andover Park West, Tukwila, WA 98188.  Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
  • This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. This position meets the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible with supervisory pre-approval.
  • This position is not represented by a union.
