Senior Data Scientist, PBM Analytics

Job description

A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to provide hands-on technical leadership for advanced analytics initiatives within the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) domain.

The Senior Data Scientist will use Python, SQL, statistical analysis, and quantitative modeling to address complex business questions involving rebate exposure, financial risk, and optimization opportunities. This position combines direct analytical execution with technical leadership, requiring the ability to turn ambiguous business problems into structured analytical solutions and guide other data scientists through implementation.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and execution for complex data science and advanced analytics initiatives.
• Translate business objectives into scalable analytical approaches and implementation plans.
• Form hypotheses and define analytical methodologies for ambiguous business problems.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, and implementation considerations throughout delivery.
• Develop advanced analytical models and solutions using Python and SQL.
• Analyze large-scale healthcare and PBM datasets.
• Develop analytical frameworks to identify, quantify, and prioritize rebate exposure and optimization opportunities.
• Apply statistical and data-driven methods to financial risk and other complex business challenges.
• Communicate analytical findings, implications, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other data scientists.
• Establish reusable analytical patterns and promote quality and scalability across data science work.
• Collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders, and engineering partners.
• Lead technical workstreams while remaining actively involved in analysis, solution design, and implementation.

Required experience and skills

• 7+ years of experience in data science, advanced analytics, quantitative modeling, or related analytical work.
• Expert-level Python and SQL skills.
• Professional experience within the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) domain.
• Strong statistical analysis and experimentation experience.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex analytical problems in ambiguous environments.
• Ability to progress from business problem definition through analytical methodology, technical solution design, and execution.
• Experience leading technical data science workstreams and influencing cross-functional teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Healthcare analytics experience is preferred.
• Rebate analytics experience is preferred.
• Financial exposure or risk modeling experience is preferred.
• Management consulting or comparable consulting experience is preferred.
• Experience with product development methodologies is preferred.
• Experience leading data science initiatives within Agile delivery teams is preferred.
