Role Overview

The Principal Engineer, Applications Development is a hands-on technical role within the engineering organisation. This role focuses on building high-quality software solutions, contributing technical expertise, and supporting engineering best practices across the team. The individual will work closely with engineers, product owners, architects, analysts, and other stakeholders to help deliver secure, scalable, reliable, maintainable, and testable solutions.

This role is suited to an engineer who enjoys solving real-world problems, writing clean code, and contributing to a collaborative engineering culture. The Principal Engineer will demonstrate strong technical capability, a learning mindset, and a commitment to quality engineering principles.

• Design, build, and support software solutions as part of an engineering team
• Write, review, and test code as a hands-on contributor
• Collaborate with team members to solve technical problems and improve delivery
• Apply engineering best practices with a focus on security, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and testability
• Support reuse of code, components, and design patterns across teams where appropriate
• Contribute to an agile, collaborative, and inclusive team environment
• Work closely with product owners, solutions architects, analysts, and engineering peers
• Learn and adapt to new technologies and development practices
• Support quality engineering efforts and partner with test engineers when needed
• Participate in engineering community discussions, sharing knowledge and learning from others

What you need to have:

• For Principal Engineer - Application Development, we are looking for a Senior Engineer with proven experience of working on mulitple products
• The ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical colleagues in a cross-functional environment
• Proven track record of successfully delivering software with a broad mix of languages, technologies and platforms
• Strong people management skills with ability to build collaborative and innovative teams
• Provide opportunities, training and mentorship to software engineers to help create and traverse career pathways
• Experience working with Agile at Scale, Lean and Continuous Delivery approaches such as Continuous Integration, Test-Driven Development and Infrastructure as Code
• Experience with cloud native software architectures
• Proven experience in Security driven design practices and the remediation of SAST/DAST findings
• Experience in CI/CD and Devops practices including the use of Quality Gates to maintain high levels of code

Technical Skills or Qualifications Required:

• Strong Proficiency in MEAN or MERN stack
• Knowledge of python for backend development, scripting, automation or AI integrations.
• Exposure to AI Frameworks and tools such as LangChain,OpenAI APIs or similar AI ecosystems is an added advantage.
• Experience with Unit Testing and Integration Testing is also essential
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Practiced experience refactoring, implementing design patterns, design driven development, continuous integration, system and application design, application security
• Strong experience working with an ORM Framework including the use of TSQL and NOSQL databases such as MSSQL and Mongodb
• Strong Knowledge of SDLC processes and practices and experience with some or all of Confluence, JIRA, ADO, Github etc.
• Experience designing and deploying applications on cloud infrastructure with providers such as AWS and Microsoft Azure

Eligibitity :

• Minimum 12 months experience as Senior Principal Engineer/Manager
• Should have at least “On track” or above in last appraisal
• Should not be under any Performance Continuity Plan, or had any official Disciplinary action within the last 3 months
• Should not have applied for any other IJP within Marsh McLennan in the last 3 month
