Overview
The Research Assistant supports research regarding tick-borne diseases, specifically Lyme disease, Babesia microti and Borrelia miyamotoi infections, and alpha gal syndrome within the department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases, Yale School of Public Health.
Responsibilities include:
- Data analysis from large Redcap databases, statistical analysis, patient enrollment and follow-up and data entry, assisting in writing scientific publications, blood processing, and thin blood smear analysis. Researches and analyzes data through site or clinic/hospital visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for research projects.
- Records and compiles information related to research data.
- Codes data accordingly to research specifications.
- Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports.
- Assists in data interpretation and analysis.
- Writes and edits material for publication and presentation.
- Reports on status of research activities.
- Assists in research design.
- Performs technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. Modifies research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments.
- Schedules and coordinates research activities.
- Orders and maintains inventory of supplies.
- Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.
Preferred work schedule is three full days per week.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Familiarity with REDCap database input, design, interpretation and analysis.
2. Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision. Well-organized.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
4. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
5. Willingness to learn new techniques and procedures and self-motivated.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
1. Previous work using data management software such as REDCap.
2. Familiarity with statistical analysis such as R.
3. Proven experience with laboratory activities and (tick-borne disease) research.
4. Familiarity with Access database.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities. Required Education and Experience Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.Job Posting Date
