Whitin Community Center (WCC) is looking for our next Assistant Aquatics Director!

If you’re passionate about aquatics, enjoy developing people, and love creating safe, positive experiences for swimmers of all ages, this could be the opportunity for you.

As our Assistant Aquatics Director, you’ll play a key leadership role in the day-to-day operation of WCC’s aquatics programs. You’ll oversee swim lessons, support and develop our lifeguard and swim instructor teams, coordinate schedules, work directly with families and participants, and help ensure our pools are safe, welcoming, and running smoothly.

This is a hands-on position, so you won’t spend your entire day behind a desk. You’ll have opportunities to teach, lifeguard, train and mentor staff, develop programming, and make a direct impact on our members and community.

What You’ll Do - Lead & Support Our Aquatics Team

• Supervise, train, schedule, and support lifeguards, Water Safety Instructors, and other aquatics staff.
• Partner with the Aquatics Director to recruit and train qualified team members.
• Help ensure appropriate lifeguard and swim instructor coverage for programs and lessons.
• Provide ongoing coaching and training to help aquatics staff succeed.
• Step in as a lifeguard or swim instructor when needed.

Create a Great Swim Lesson Experience

• Coordinate all aspects of the swim lesson experience, from registration and welcoming families through swimmer evaluations and recommendations for future lessons.
• Assist with seasonal swim lesson schedules, class ratios, instructor assignments, attendance tracking, and parent/guardian communication.
• Help develop and maintain private swim lesson programming.
• Ensure swim lessons are delivered safely, enthusiastically, and in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines.

Support Safe & Successful Pool Operations

• Help maintain a safe environment for WCC members, guests, swimmers, and staff.
• Assist with regular facility safety inspections.
• Monitor pool conditions and chemical levels and maintain required records.
• Help keep pool areas, equipment, and supplies clean, organized, and properly maintained.
• Assist with pool maintenance projects and seasonal pool shutdowns.
• Respond calmly and appropriately to emergency or potentially hazardous situations.

Help Grow Our Programs

• Bring ideas and creativity to the development of new aquatics programs.
• Support aquatics programming for children, youth, and adults.
• Coordinate and supervise aquatics activities for Camp Whitin.
• Collaborate with WCC’s Child Care team to develop and implement age-appropriate recreational activities.
• Assist the Aquatics Director with seasonal programming recommendations, scheduling, and department budget planning.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines strong aquatics knowledge with excellent leadership, organization, and customer service skills.

Required certifications:

• Current Lifeguard certification
• First Aid certification
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification

Additional certifications or willingness to obtain them:

• Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
• Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor/Trainer
• First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
