Join Our Mission
At Omega Technical Services, every role supports a mission that matters. Whether you're advancing national security, driving innovation in nuclear infrastructure, or supporting critical DOE and DoD operations, you’re part of something bigger here.
Overview
Omega Technical Services is seeking an experienced Designer to support Idaho National Laboratory’s Materials and Fuels Complex. The Designer will translate engineering requirements into detailed drawings, 3D parametric models, assemblies, and technical documentation supporting fabrication and installation.
Qualified candidates will have strong PTC Creo proficiency, precision mechanical design expertise, and hands-on experience applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Candidates with mechanical, electrical, or multidisciplinary design backgrounds who meet these qualifications are encouraged to apply.
Work will be performed remotely, with occasional travel onsite to provide support at MFC as needed.
This position is contingent upon contract award and/or project funding. Candidates may be identified, screened, and submitted prior to award. Employment offers and start dates are dependent upon successful contract award, funding authorization, and client approval.
Responsibilities
Develop and revise 2D drawings, 3D parametric models, assemblies, and associated documentation using approved engineering inputs.
Prepare drawings that clearly define geometry, interfaces, materials, finishes, processes, tolerances, inspection requirements, and assembly relationships.
Apply GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009, including datum reference frames, feature control frames, material condition modifiers, and basic dimensions.
Evaluate tolerance accumulation and fit at part and assembly interfaces to identify potential fabrication, inspection, assembly, or operational issues.
Apply sound parametric modeling practices, including fully constrained sketches, stable design intent, controlled references, and organized assembly structures.
Independently check drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, fit, form, function, manufacturability, inspectability, and compliance with applicable standards.
Verify bills of material, parts lists, item balloons, quantities, drawing references, notes, weld symbols, and revision information.
Maintain drawing and model integrity through established document control, revision control, configuration management, and records processes.
Resolve technical review comments and maintain an auditable record of changes.
Collaborate with engineers, designers, fabricators, and inspectors to clarify requirements and resolve discrepancies.
Manage assigned priorities, provide progress updates, and communicate scope, resource, or schedule concerns.
Support backlog reduction and mentor drafting personnel when requested.
Perform other duties assigned by the BEA Technical Point of Contact.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with at least 5 years of relevant experience; OR at least 10 years of relevant experience without a degree.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of experience using PTC Creo, with proficiency sufficient to contribute immediately.
Demonstrated specialization in precision mechanical design, including 3D parametric modeling, part and assembly detailing, and fabrication drawings.
Demonstrated ability to apply GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009 and evaluate tolerance accumulation and fit at part and assembly interfaces.
Experience independently checking drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, manufacturability, inspectability, and compliance with applicable standards.
Ability to interpret engineering specifications, calculations, vendor data, and redlines while preserving engineering intent.
Working knowledge of materials, machining, welding, fabrication, inspection, and assembly methods.
Experience working within drawing revision control and configuration management processes.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to work the designated Mountain Time schedule and report onsite at MFC as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using Windchill or a comparable product data management system, such as PDM or Vault.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary drawing packages and resolving comments from engineers, fabricators, and inspectors.
Experience mentoring drafting personnel in modeling, detailing, drawing checks, and GD&T application.
Experience managing drafting workloads, supporting backlog reduction, and tracking progress against project schedules.
- Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.
