Airport Operations Supervisor
Location: Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) – Montgomery, AL

We are seeking a dedicated, highly organized aviation professional to direct day-to-day operations, ensure strict regulatory compliance, and support our growing facility.
Position Summary
This position directs the day-to-day operational functions of the Airport Authority, coordinating closely with airport tenants, federal, state, and local agencies, and aviation user groups. The successful candidate will ensure continuous safety and security compliance under Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Parts 77 and 139, and Transportation Security Regulations (TSR) Part 1542, while providing exceptional leadership and customer service.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Operations & Compliance: Conduct periodic, daily, and continuous airfield and facilities inspections to identify and resolve unsafe or non-compliant conditions.
Communications & Monitoring: Actively monitor two-way radio communications (including ATC), security access control systems, CCTV, flight operations statuses, weather conditions, and work order requests.
Supervision & Leadership: Direct and oversee staff (including Operation Specialists), handling employee evaluations, disciplinary matters, and coordinating technical training programs.
Security & Access Control: Issue airport ID media and administer fingerprinting services.
Project Coordination: Coordinate and monitor airport construction activities, snow removal, and runway/taxiway maintenance with the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower and stakeholders.
Stakeholder Relations: Provide high-level customer service, responding to inquiries from the public, business partners, and regulatory agencies while building effective working relationships.
Maintenance Support: Perform simple mechanical/maintenance repairs and troubleshooting as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Expertise: Sound knowledge of supervisory principles, airport operations, maintenance, planning, and environmental compliance regulations.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of FAR Parts 77 and 139, and TSR Parts 1540 and 1542.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe, and specialized airport software.
Decision Making: Ability to multi-task, exercise independent judgment, act decisively, and respond effectively in emergency situations.
Communication: Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft reports, deliver presentations, and decipher critical radio/alarm communications.
Physical & Environmental Demands:
Ability to climb, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and drive to various on- and off-site locations.
Visual acuity to read runway friction measurements and detect airfield defects.
Ability to tolerate noise levels up to 120 decibels and work near 480-volt power sources.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Airport/Aviation Management, Aviation Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
Experience: At least 2–3 years of progressive aviation experience, including professional background aligned with FAR Part 139 operations.
Special Requirements
Accreditation: Must attain Certified Member (CM) accreditation within six (6) months of hire.
Security Clearance: Must meet all requirements to obtain and maintain unescorted access to the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).
Licensure: Must possess a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Screening: Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and subsequent random drug testing.
Desirable Qualifications (Preferred)
Current Certified Member (CM) or Airport Security Coordinator (ASC) designation.
Experience with a Fixed Base Operator (FBO), commercial airline, air cargo carrier, airfield maintenance, or airport emergency services.
Possession of a Private Pilot Certificate.
