Part-time


Job Summary: Professional position in the Support Services Department of Fort Bend County Libraries. Responsible for copy cataloging of library materials and assisting with the accuracy of the library catalog.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Performs copy cataloging of library materials in all formats using OCL and the

  • Polaris Integrated Library System (ILS).

  • Search OCLC for MARC records, locate and match records to items needing cataloging and edit records to conform to local standards.

  • May assist in local database management including deleting files and holdings, in both the library catalog and the OCLC database.

  • Process materials as necessary.

Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Knowledge: Bachelor’s Degree required, master’s degree in library science from an American Library Associated accredited school is preferred.

  • Experience: One year cataloging experience using OCLC bibliographic database. One year experience working with the Dewey Decimal Classification System.

  • Knowledge of MARC records and experience using an integrated library system.

  • Computer skills; good verbal and written communication, and organizational skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials; ability to complete assigned project in a timely manner.

Special Requirements: Valid Texas Driver’s License

Equipment Used: Integrated Library System (ILS), Telephone, Keyboard, Printer, Personal Computer (PC), Photocopier/Scanner, Calculator


SALARY: $22.00 Hourly

CLOSING DATE: Upon Filling Position
