Retube Tooling & Field Services


AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Intermediate Instrumentation, Control & Electrical Engineer to join the Retube Tooling & Field Services Department. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design, development, integration, testing, commissioning, and field deployment of specialized nuclear tooling and equipment used in reactor refurbishment and maintenance projects. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support projects throughout their full lifecycle, from concept development and laboratory testing to field execution at customer sites.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design, develop, integrate, test, and support instrumentation, control, automation, and electrical systems for specialized tooling and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA, LabVIEW, motion control, and data acquisition (DAQ) applications.
  • Prepare and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel designs, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Support hardware and software qualification, system validation, commissioning, and testing activities.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Design Verification Testing (DVT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), equipment qualification, and commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, controls, and software issues in laboratory, manufacturing, and field environments.
  • Support refurbishment outages, commissioning, maintenance, and field service activities at nuclear generating stations.
  • Collaborate with project teams, vendors, manufacturing groups, and field personnel to deliver safe, reliable, and innovative solutions.
  • Support configuration management, document control, engineering change control, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Have a good understating of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of CSA, IEC standards for Electrical, Control and Software.

About You


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, controls, automation, or electrical engineering.
  • Experience supporting industrial automation systems, specialized tooling, manufacturing equipment, field service applications, or nuclear systems.
  • Experience with commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and field support activities.
  • Eligibility for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Siemens PLC programming, including Step 7, TIA Portal, S7-SCL, S7-GRAPH, SIMATIC NET, Safety PLCs, PROFIBUS, and PROFINET.
  • Experience developing HMI and SCADA applications, including WinCC and related industrial automation platforms.
  • Familiarity with motion control systems, including VFDs, servo drives, and industrial communications such as I-Device architecture.
  • Experience with LabVIEW development, National Instruments hardware, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation is considered a strong asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of engineering change control processes, system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Engineering Software Development Life Cycle
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Assets


  • Experience with CANDU refurbishment projects, retube tooling, remote handling systems, inspection equipment, or field service operations.
  • Experience supporting FAT, CCT, DVT, commissioning, and outage execution activities.
  • Familiarity with industrial security and monitoring systems, including PELCO/Endura platforms, is considered an asset
  • Experience with machine vision systems, robotics, embedded control systems, or automated equipment.
  • Ability to travel and support customer sites as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable nuclear security clearances.
