Description

Make an impact when people need it most.

When someone is experiencing a mental health crisis, the right support at the right moment can make all the difference.

Family Services is looking for a compassionate, confident, and dependable Crisis Counselor to join our Crisis Center team. In this role, you will provide immediate support to individuals experiencing mental health emergencies, assess safety and needs, coordinate appropriate services, and help individuals and families navigate some of life's most difficult moments.

Whether you are an experienced human services professional or a recent graduate ready to begin your career, this is an opportunity to develop valuable clinical skills while doing meaningful work in your community.

Your Schedule

  • Casual Part Time | Flexible Overnight
  • Receive a $3/hour shift differential for 2nd, 3rd, and weekend shifts

Your Work Setting

  • You will work at our Crisis Center, located at 3150 Gershwin Drive in Green Bay, and respond to mobile crisis needs within the counties we serve.
  • The role includes emotionally challenging situations, community travel, and ongoing participation in supervision, consultation, and training.

What You Will Do

As a Crisis Counselor, you will be part of a team providing critical crisis intervention and mental health support to individuals in our community. You will:

  • Provide compassionate crisis intervention by telephone, at the Crisis Center, and in the community.
  • Assess mental health and substance use concerns, suicide and homicide risk, immediate needs, and available supports.
  • Use active listening and de-escalation to help individuals manage distress and regain stability.
  • Develop collaborative safety and short-term treatment plans.
  • Coordinate the least restrictive appropriate care, including community resources, diversion services, and voluntary hospitalization.
  • Support emergency detention and protective placement processes within your authorized role and program procedures.
  • Provide referrals, advocacy, short-term follow-up, and accurate documentation.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, emergency responders, protective services, and other community partners.
  • Respond to mobile crisis needs and transport individuals when necessary to support an approved voluntary treatment plan.

Who We Are Looking For

You may be a great fit if you are someone who:

  • Remains composed during challenging situations and seeks consultation when needed
  • Can listen, assess, solve problems, and make thoughtful decisions.
  • Build strong professional relationships with clients, coworkers, and community partners.
  • Is comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Wants to build a career in behavioral health, mental health, counseling, social work, or crisis services.
  • Finds purpose in helping people through difficult moments.

Education & Requirements

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human services, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience consistent with program qualification requirements.
  • A valid Wisconsin driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, required automobile insurance, and an acceptable driving record are also required.
  • The ability to travel and respond to crisis situations in varied community settings.

Experience in crisis intervention, behavioral health, substance use services, or case management is preferred. No minimum prior experience is required. New graduates are encouraged to apply.

Grow Your Career With Us

  • This role can be an excellent opportunity to build your clinical experience and advance your behavioral health career.
  • Clinical hours and supervision toward LCSW or LPC licensure may be available.
  • You will also gain hands-on experience in crisis assessment, suicide prevention, safety planning, emergency mental health services, community resources, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
