Overview
Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead hotel finance and accounting operations at a dynamic, highly seasonal resort. This role is ideal for a hands-on financial leader who understands the complexities of resort operations, including food and beverage profitability, labor management, budgeting, and financial forecasting.
The Director of Finance will partner closely with hotel leadership and department heads to drive financial performance, manage operating expenses, and maintain strong internal controls. With significant seasonal fluctuations in occupancy and revenue, this leader will play a key role in helping the resort make informed financial decisions, maintain cost discipline, and achieve its business goals.
Beyond financial oversight, the Director of Finance will lead and develop the accounting team, strengthen processes and procedures, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who can balance strategic financial planning with the daily details that keep a complex resort operating successfully.
Responsibilities
Lead all hotel finance, accounting, and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies and internal controls.
Oversee annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, financial analysis, and long-range planning to support revenue growth and profitability.
Monitor financial performance, identify variances, and develop actionable recommendations to manage expenses and improve operating results.
Drive labor cost management by partnering with department leaders to align staffing and scheduling with occupancy, revenue, and seasonal business demands.
Oversee food and beverage financial performance, including cost controls, purchasing practices, inventory management, and profitability across multiple outlets.
Establish and maintain effective financial controls, checks and balances, standard operating procedures, and accountability measures.
Conduct regular reviews of financial results, labor costs, departmental spending, and operating trends to identify risks and opportunities.
Partner with hotel leadership, department heads, and ownership to communicate financial performance, explain variances, and support sound business decisions.
Build strong working relationships across hotel operations, promoting collaboration while maintaining appropriate financial oversight and spending discipline.
Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team, providing mentorship, establishing clear expectations, and building financial knowledge and accountability.
Evaluate existing accounting processes and implement improvements that strengthen efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
Support financial decision-making in a highly seasonal resort environment, adapting forecasts, labor plans, and expense controls as business levels change.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Five or more years of experience in hotel finance, hospitality accounting, or a related financial leadership role preferred.
- Previous experience as a Director of Finance, Assistant Director of Finance, or comparable hotel finance leader preferred.
- Experience managing financial operations at a hotel, resort, or complex food and beverage operation.
- Strong knowledge of hotel budgeting, financial forecasting, financial reporting, labor cost management, and expense control.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial results, identify variances, and translate data into practical recommendations.
- Understanding of food and beverage cost controls, inventory management, purchasing practices, and outlet profitability.
- Experience establishing accounting procedures, internal controls, and processes that promote accuracy and accountability.
- Proficiency with financial management systems, accounting software, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A hands-on, solutions-oriented leadership style with a sense of urgency and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly and partner effectively with operational leaders and ownership.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop accounting professionals while building a collaborative team environment.
