Manager - Community Affairs

Under the supervision of the Director of Community Affairs, the Community Affairs Manager oversees outreach programs and community engagement activities that strengthen the Hospital’s relationships, support its reputation as a trusted partner, and advance its mission to improve the well-being of patients, neighbors, and communities.

The Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and strengthening relationships throughout southern Westchester County, with a particular focus on communities along the I-287/Westchester Avenue corridor, including White Plains, Port Chester, Rye, Harrison, Bronxville, Eastchester, Tuckahoe, New Rochelle, Yonkers, Mount Vernon, and Scarsdale. The role emphasizes partnerships with community-based organizations, civic and religious leaders, elected officials, and other key stakeholders.

Essential Job Duties:

• Community Engagement and Program Development: Develop and implement programs that leverage the Hospital’s resources and subject-matter experts to enhance community engagement and well-being, including health education lectures, wellness classes, flu vaccination clinics, and related initiatives.

• Use the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), the Hospital Growth Plan, and other internal planning documents to guide program development and community investment recommendations.

• Identify opportunities and develop recommendations to strengthen strategic community relationships and advance the Hospital’s community affairs priorities.

• Proactively identify community issues that may affect the Hospital’s relationships or reputation and coordinate appropriate responses with elected officials and community-based organizations.

• Lead and coordinate health events and community programs delivered on-site, virtually, or in the community, and develop a monthly calendar of programs and events for the Director’s review. Organize all logistics to ensure NYP is represented professionally, including gathering, organizing, and transporting collateral and setting up tabling.

•Stakeholder Relations and Community Partnerships: Develop and manage relationships with key community stakeholders, including community-based organizations, senior groups, schools, student groups, houses of worship, chambers of commerce, civic organizations, elected officials, and community partners.

• Governance and Committee Support: Lead the Community Advisory Board by developing quarterly meeting topics, preparing agendas and presentations, drafting collateral materials, coordinating logistics, and ensuring sufficient time for leadership review and approval.

• Support school partnerships and youth development initiatives that align with community health and engagement priorities.

• Provide logistical and content support for the Hospital’s quarterly Community Outreach Committee meetings, including agenda development, meeting materials, advance review and approval, and follow-up management.

• Employee and Youth Engagement: Coordinate employee-led community benefit activities, including donation drives, volunteer opportunities, and related engagement efforts.

•Create presentations, briefing materials, newsletter content, promotional materials, and outcome reports that communicate the Hospital’s community affairs work to internal and external audiences.

• Sponsorships, Reporting, and Communications: Lead the identification, evaluation, approval, tracking, and payment processing of community sponsorship opportunities.

• Monitor sponsorship budget commitments, confirm receipt of funds, and collect impact documentation when available.

• Perform other duties consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the managerial role.

This position is primarily scheduled for day shifts, but candidates must be available to work nights and weekends as needed.

Required Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience. Five to ten years’ experience in community work, with at least three years working in public health, health care, or health policy.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local communities and leaders; the role of elected officials and governmental agencies; and the functions of local and state governments.
  • Strong networking and communication skills
  • Strong writing and analytic ability
