Description
Role: Client Manager
Location: York
Salary: Circa £45,000+ (depending on experience)
Are you an experienced practice accountant who enjoys building long-term client relationships as much as preparing accounts? Looking for a modern accountancy firm that offers genuine flexibility, hybrid working and the opportunity to progress as the business grows?
A modern and growing independent accountancy practice in York is looking to recruit an experienced Client Manager to support its continued expansion.
Established in recent years, the firm has built a strong reputation for delivering proactive accountancy and business advisory services to owner-managed businesses. Through continued growth and strong client relationships, the business is now looking to strengthen its team with someone who can take ownership of client relationships and provide a high-quality service.
The firm offers a flexible and collaborative working environment, with hybrid working embedded into the culture and a genuine focus on supporting employees with a positive work-life balance.
The Role
You'll take ownership of a varied portfolio of limited company clients, acting as the main point of contact and ensuring clients receive an excellent level of service.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Managing a portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients
-
Preparing statutory accounts
-
Preparing company and personal tax returns
-
Supporting clients with general accounting queries
-
Building and maintaining strong client relationships
-
Managing deadlines and workflow across your portfolio
-
Handling client communications and providing proactive support
-
Discussing fees and supporting commercial client conversations
-
Working closely with the Directors and wider team
There is also the opportunity to gain further exposure to audit work if this is something you are interested in developing. Previous audit experience would be advantageous but is not essential, and support can be provided for someone looking to expand their technical skillset.
About You
The firm is looking for an experienced practice professional who enjoys the client-facing side of accountancy and can confidently manage their own portfolio.
You'll ideally have:
-
Strong general practice accountancy experience
-
Experience managing client relationships
-
Good knowledge of accounts preparation and tax compliance
-
Excellent communication skills
-
A proactive and commercial approach
-
The ability to organise and manage a varied workload independently
-
A relationship-led approach with a genuine interest in supporting clients
Candidates who are qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience will be considered, with practical experience and client management ability valued highly.
Benefits of the Client Manager role include:
-
Salary circa £45,000+, depending on experience
-
Hybrid working with a 50/50 split between home and office
-
Full-time or part-time opportunities considered (3–4 days per week welcomed)
-
Flexible approach to working patterns
-
Genuine progression opportunities as the firm continues to grow
-
Opportunity to develop into a more strategic client management position
-
Support and training available to develop additional technical areas
-
Modern cloud-based systems and technology
-
Friendly and collaborative team environment
-
Opportunity to work closely with approachable Directors
-
A role where your ideas and experience can genuinely influence the future of the business
Why Join?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking accountancy practice where you'll have genuine ownership of your client portfolio and the opportunity to make a real impact.
Unlike larger firms where roles can become heavily specialised, this position offers variety, autonomy and the chance to build meaningful relationships with clients and colleagues.
The business continues to grow, and this role offers the opportunity to develop alongside the firm, with long-term progression available for the right person.
