[What the role is]

School of Sports and Health, whose vision is to be the leading educator in sports, health and artificial intelligence, invites applications from highly motivated individuals to join its multidisciplinary research team.

We are looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer with an interest in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health to support the development of SMILE: Smart Monitoring for Individualized Living and Engagement, an AI-powered neurological screening platform for early detection of stroke and cognitive decline.

The successful candidate will work closely with researchers, clinicians, healthcare partners and software engineers to develop scalable mobile and cloud-based healthcare applications integrating Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Agentic AI and Cyber-Physical AI technologies.

The role is ideal for candidates who enjoy building complete software solutions while applying emerging AI technologies to solve real-world healthcare challenges.

[What you will be working on]

The Project Staff will contribute in the following areas:
•    Design and develop full-stack mobile and web applications for AI-enabled neurological screening. 
•    Develop secure backend services, APIs and cloud-native infrastructure supporting AI inference and healthcare workflows. 
•    Integrate Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Computer Vision models into production-ready applications. 
•    Support the implementation of Agentic AI workflows for personalised risk assessment, monitoring and intervention. 
•    Develop intuitive frontend interfaces for clinicians, caregivers and community users. 
•    Assist in deploying scalable cloud infrastructure using AWS and modern DevOps practices. 
•    Develop and maintain databases for multimodal healthcare data including facial video, motor assessment, speech and cognitive screening. 
•    Collaborate with researchers, clinicians and community care partners to evaluate usability, workflow integration and system performance. 
•    Assist in technical documentation, software validation, research publications and project reporting. 
•    Support software maintenance, testing, cybersecurity and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle. 
Successful candidate will be placed on a 12-month contract.

[What we are looking for]

•    Qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence or related disciplines. 
•    Strong full-stack software development experience across web and mobile platforms. 
•    Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Python or JavaScript. 
•    Experience with modern frontend and backend frameworks (e.g. React, VueJS, Spring Boot, FastAPI, Flask or similar). 
•    Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases. 
•    Familiarity with AWS cloud services, DevOps workflows and API development. 
•    Experience integrating Machine Learning or Deep Learning models into software applications would be advantageous. 
•    Exposure to Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing or Generative AI technologies would be advantageous. 
•    Knowledge of healthcare technologies, digital health platforms or biomedical applications would be an advantage. 
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate user requirements into practical software solutions. 
•    Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research teams. 
•    Self-motivated, organised and able to manage multiple development tasks independently.
