This is a part-time, temporary position requiring biomedical engineering skills in a Cardiothoracic surgery laboratory at the University of Louisville Medical Center. The assistant will be expected to use their skills doing individual and team project work on a variety of projects including modeling the pediatric cardiovascular system, lung disease, red blood cell preservation, and advanced healthcare capability for astronaut space expeditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perioperative and experimental procedure support of animal experiments
Participate in the conduct, documentation, and data analysis of experiments in the lab
Design and fabrication of components needed to advance the projects in the lab
Test the performance of new devices and techniques needed for experiments in the lab
Preferred Qualifications
Entering student in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. mechanical, electrical, bioengineering) Previous experience working on laboratory experiments
Previous experience working on cardiovascular or thoracic laboratory experiments
Previous experience in the design, fabrication, and documentation of new components and research devices
Works well individually on assignments and as a good project team member
Competencies
Excellent verbal and written communication
Engineering Design skills (e.g. Solidworks or equivalent)
Fabrication skills (e.g. 3D printing, hand fabrication work, machine shop skills)
Works well as a member of an interdisciplinary project team
Healthy with a good work ethic Excellent manual dexterity
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
