The Opportunity

Lesley University's department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is seeking a highly qualified adjunct faculty member to teach: CMATH 1990 - Concepts and Applications of Calculus I; Fall Semester 2026; Tuesdays/Fridays from 11:10 am - 12:35 pm; In-person, On-Campus.

Course Description:

This course examines calculus as the mathematical study of change and provides a framework for exploring phenomena across the physical, biological, and social sciences. This course introduces concepts of limits, continuity, derivatives, and definite integrals while drawing connections between graphical representations of tangents and area and functional interpretations of instantaneous rates of change and net change. This course requires proficiency in algebra and functions, including exponential functions, logarithms, trigonometric functions, and linear functions. This course is a 4-credit course that meets for 20 minutes more per meeting than a standard 3-credit course and includes an additional 5 hours of asynchronous instruction.


Qualities & Capabilities

A successful candidate will have:

  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field (required); PhD or terminal degree (preferred)

  • Successful experience teaching mathematics courses at the undergraduate level

  • Experience supporting students with diverse academic backgrounds and levels of mathematical preparation

  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered, inclusive, and equitable teaching practices

  • Experience in constructivist inquiry-based learning with the ability to teach mathematical concepts in ways that are accessible, relevant, and engaging

  • Experience using learning management systems and educational technology to support teaching and learning

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
