Responsibilities:

  • Draft initial deal memos/agreements, including above-the-line talent (actors, producers, writers, directors) and underlying rights for streaming and broadcast programming, and support legal affairs in responding to comments to those drafts while they move to execution.

  • Assist with preparation of legal documents and redlines, drafting letters/emails/correspondence, and facilitate execution and distribution of documents externally and to internal partners.

  • Accurately update/maintain databases, charts, reports and Document Management systems, and assist in monitoring dates of legal significance (e.g., options and expirations).

  • Assist with managing numerous projects in active development and production including by coordinating with creative, production, labor, and casting executives regarding budgets, writers’ rooms, and other matters necessary for the production of TV series and ancillary matters (e.g., licensing, marketing).

  • Respond to questions from other departments regarding deal terms, the status of negotiations, production-related matters, etc.

  • Analyze contracts in response to business questions and provide necessary contractual/research information to 20th executives.

  • Take a first pass at reviewing budgets and credits for accuracy.

  • Learn and document department policies/procedures, forms and deal terms and serve as a knowledgeable resource for the team and other departments.

  • May be asked to handle some administrative assistant-type tasks, including but not limited to answering phones, managing calendars, meetings and conference calls; and managing expense reports.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience required.

  • Prior work experience in a fast-paced environment; studio, production company or entertainment law firm preferred.

  • Familiarity with the structure of television and intellectual property deals.

  • Must have strong written (including legal drafting) and interpersonal/verbal communication skills.

  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to independently prioritize work and handle multiple tasks with set deadlines under pressure, and possess excellent organizational and tracking skills.

  • Must have strong reasoning skills and be solutions-oriented.

  • Must be able to complete a high volume of tasks and projects quickly with little guidance and react with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require a quick response or turnaround.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Adobe Acrobat is required; experience with NetDocs, DocuSign and AirTable is a helpful bonus.

  • Because of exposure to high level confidential information, a high level of integrity, discretion and professionalism is required.

  • Honesty, collegiality, and a willingness to dig in and get a job done, vital to success.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • JD and active member of CA bar preferred.

The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $59,600 to $79,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
