Job Description:

Are you an experienced engineer who enjoys managing capital projects, improving plant infrastructure, and solving complex facility challenges? Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials is seeking a Facilities and Project Engineer to join our Engineering team in Scranton, PA.

In this role, you will lead critical plant infrastructure and capital projects, ensure the reliability of essential utility systems, and help modernize the facility for long-term performance. You'll balance hands-on technical troubleshooting with strategic engineering planning while maintaining a strong focus on safety, operational excellence, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement.

If you're a project engineer who enjoys taking ownership from concept through execution and wants to make a visible impact within a manufacturing environment, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Select and manage contractors and vendors throughout project execution
  • Provide project safety oversight and manage invoice approvals
  • Balance multiple projects, timelines, priorities, and business needs to ensure successful execution

Drive Plant Infrastructure & Reliability

  • Track daily system performance and develop effective maintenance and reliability strategies
  • Modernize plantwide utility infrastructure by replacing obsolete equipment and improving system performance
  • Support the reliability and efficiency of critical systems including boilers, HVAC, compressed air, water treatment, and electrical distribution
  • Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure performance, continuity, and long-term sustainability

Provide Electrical & Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership for electrical systems up to 12kV
  • Support new electrical service installations and transformer integration
  • Maintain accurate facility electrical documentation, including single-line diagrams
  • Ensure appropriate NFPA-compliant electrical labeling throughout the facility
  • Support arc flash compliance and electrical system improvements
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and other technical documentation

Champion Safety & Compliance

  • Foster and reinforce a zero-harm safety culture for employees and contractors
  • Ensure projects and facility activities comply with company safety policies and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Manage required annual inspections and testing of facility systems
  • Support compliance with OSHA requirements, applicable building codes, and MOC processes
  • Incorporate safety and risk mitigation into project planning and execution

Partner with Maintenance & Engineering

  • Support troubleshooting, system design, and project execution
  • Build relationships with external contractors and specialized service providers to supplement internal capabilities
  • Collaborate across functions to identify issues, determine root causes, and implement effective corrective actions
  • Influence teams and drive results without relying solely on direct authority

Support Plant Shutdowns

  • Support the planning and execution of scheduled plant shutdowns
  • Coordinate activities across internal teams, contractors, and service providers
  • Conduct field walkthroughs and support risk mitigation planning
  • Help ensure shutdown activities are completed safely and effectively

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Plastics Engineering, or a related engineering field
  • 5 to 7 years of Project Engineering experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Demonstrated project management experience leading initiatives from concept through execution and completion
  • Strong knowledge of plant utility and support systems, including boilers, HVAC, compressed air, water treatment, and electrical distribution
  • Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints and electrical schematics
  • Working knowledge of industrial equipment and how systems interact within a manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements, MOC processes, and applicable building codes
  • Strong root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel

What Will Help You Succeed

We're looking for an engineer who combines hands-on technical capability with strong project leadership. You'll be successful in this role if you're comfortable moving between the plant floor and project planning, troubleshooting utility systems, working with contractors, managing capital investments, and communicating with stakeholders across the organization.

You'll also bring a strong sense of ownership, sound judgment, and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement while keeping safety, reliability, and operational continuity at the center of your decisions.

    Why Join Us?

    • Take ownership of meaningful capital and infrastructure projects from concept through completion
    • Modernize critical plant utility systems and improve long-term facility reliability
    • Work with electrical systems, utilities, facility infrastructure, and manufacturing equipment
    • Play a key role in capital planning, contractor management, and plant shutdown activities
    • Partner closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and external technical resources
    • Use your technical expertise to directly influence safety, reliability, and operational performance
    • Join a global advanced materials organization committed to innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence

If you're an experienced engineer who enjoys leading projects, solving technical challenges, and improving the infrastructure that keeps manufacturing operations running, we encourage you to apply and join our Engineering team in Scranton, PA.
