Job Description
Data Center Vertical - Business Development Manager (India)
Background & External Scenario:
India's data center market is one of the fastest-growing infrastructure segments globally, driven by hyperscaler capacity expansion, government-backed digital infrastructure policy, rising AI/compute workloads, and increasing localization of server, networking, and power infrastructure manufacturing. India is emerging as both a consumption market and a manufacturing base for data center components, with global OEMs, ODMs, and EMS players scaling up local capacity to serve domestic hyperscalers and export markets.
3M unlocks the power of people, ideas, and science to reimagine what's possible. Through our Transportation & Electronics Business Group, we solve tough customer challenges to advance a connected world, with 150+ plants across 36 countries and sales & marketing presence in 70 countries. 3M is consistently ranked among Fortune's World's Most Admired Companies and Great Place to Work's World's Best Workplaces.
At 3M's Display & Electronics Product Platform (DEPP) team in India, this role will be central to building 3M's presence in the Data Center vertical — bridging deep technical understanding of next-generation interconnect and thermal/power materials with on-ground commercial execution across hyperscalers, OEMs, ODMs, and EMS/contract manufacturing partners in India.
Job Description Summary:
This is a Business Development role responsible for developing and growing 3M's Data Center vertical business in India. We are seeking a high-caliber Business Development Manager to serve as a pivotal bridge between engineering innovation and commercial execution.
In this dual-impact role, the position will hold end-to-end ownership of Data Center Segment growth for 3M in India. On the technical front, you will act as a trusted advisor, translating complex, system-level customer requirements into high-value 3M material and technology solutions. Commercially, you will champion the account strategy, driving deep penetration, and scaling revenue across high-potential portfolios. This is a role designed for a strategic professional who can speak the language of engineers and executives alike.
Job Responsibilities:
- Map key customers and stakeholders in India's Data Center ecosystem, including hyperscalers, server/networking OEMs, ODMs, EMS/CM partners, and component convertors.
- Serve as the technical interface for customers on next-gen interconnect and performance material needs, covering evolving standards such as PCIe, UEC, UALink, NVLink, CXL, Ethernet, and InfiniBand, and translate these into system-level requirements across electrical, thermal, and mechanical domains.
- Bridge customer needs with 3M's technology roadmap to position future-proof, scalable solutions across copper and optical interconnect, thermal management, and power/data transmission materials.
- Own and execute the commercial sales plan for the Data Center vertical in India, including account-level forecasting, pipeline management, and quarterly/long-term demand planning.
- Work internally with Global Key Account Managers, Segment Marketers, and Application Development Engineers to align India opportunities with global product roadmaps and new applications.
- Building and executing the channel strategy supporting the Data Center vertical, ensuring effective territory coverage and account penetration.
- Negotiate commercial agreements and pricing to optimize revenue while maintaining strong, long-term customer relationships.
- Represent 3M at relevant industry forums, standards bodies, and customer technical reviews to reinforce 3M's position as a Data Center materials and interconnect innovator.
- Communicate customer and market insights internally to shape product development, application engineering priorities, and go-to-market strategy.
- Track investments and expansion activity in the India Data Center ecosystem to proactively identify and convert new leads.
Skills, Expertise, and Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 10-15 years of combined technical (FAE/Solutions Architecture/Product Development) and commercial (sales/account management) experience, ideally within interconnect, electronic materials, or data center infrastructure.
- Working understanding of data center system architecture — servers, networking, power, and thermal management — and how material/component choices affect performance.
- Ability to engage credibly at both engineering and commercial decision-maker levels within hyperscaler, OEM, ODM, and EMS/CM organizations.
- Strong grasp of 3M's Data Center-relevant portfolio (interconnect, thermal, power, and precision materials) versus competitor offerings.
- Demonstrated ability to convert technical relationships into commercial outcomes — forecasting, negotiation, and closing high-value opportunities.
Other Skills:
- Preferable to be based in Bangalore, with willingness to travel across India Data Center hub locations.
- Prior experience working with hyperscalers, server/networking OEMs, or EMS/ODM partners is highly preferred.
- Basic understanding of electronics/data center hardware manufacturing processes and terminology.
