Job Summary

The lead power electronics HW engineer will lead power electronics design, integration, and validation for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) products, including PCS/inverters, DC/DC converters, auxiliary power, protection interfaces, high-voltage DC distribution, and related power conversion subsystems. This role will translate system requirements into robust hardware architecture, electrical interface requirements, supplier specifications, and validation plans to support safe, reliable, efficient, and compliant BESS operation. The engineer will work closely with system architects, suppliers, thermal, mechanical, test, manufacturing, quality, certification, and customer teams to deliver high-performance BESS platforms for commercial, industrial, utility-scale, microgrid, and critical power applications.

Location:

This role will be based at Jabil's Huangpu office in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead BESS power electronics engineering activities, including PCS/inverter integration, DC/DC conversion, auxiliary power, high-voltage DC distribution, protection interfaces, and critical power architecture.
  • Define electrical requirements for PCS, BMS/EMS interfaces, switchgear, transformers, meters, protection devices, grounding, and site-level power interfaces.
  • Review power electronics designs, including semiconductor selection, gate drives, magnetics, DC-link capacitors, sensing, protection circuits, EMI/EMC, thermal constraints, and high-voltage safety.
  • Evaluate PCS/inverter performance, including efficiency, power rating, charge/discharge capability, reactive power capability, derating behavior, protection coordination, and grid compliance needs.
  • Develop specifications, interface requirements, validation expectations, design review checklists, reliability requirements, and release readiness criteria.
  • Support modeling, simulation, and validation activities for converter performance, losses, efficiency, harmonics, thermal loading, power quality, reliability, and field issue resolution.
  • Partner with suppliers, test labs, customers, and cross-functional teams to improve PCS/BESS performance, manufacturability, cost, reliability, and launch readiness.
  • Prepare and present technical specifications, design reviews, test reports, risk assessments, root-cause analyses, and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
