Job Description:
Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Human Resources Business Partner with high attention to detail, resilient under pressure with the ability to operate effectively within a culturally diverse work environment. This position is based in Brisbane, Australia.
In accordance with the Company Vision, Mission, Values and Management Disciplines, the Senior HR Business Partner provides senior-level HR partnering, employee relations, workforce planning, compliance and leadership support across Australia and New Zealand.
The role works closely with business leaders, project leaders and the HR team to align people strategies with business priorities, strengthen organisational capability, support workforce stability, and ensure practical, consistent and compliant HR delivery. The Senior HR Business Partner is expected to operate across both strategic and operational matters, providing sound advice, coaching and support in a fast-paced, complex and growing organisation.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Accountabilities include but are not limited to the following:
· Strategic HR Business Partnering
The Senior HR Business Partner will partner with leaders to ensure HR strategies and people practices support business objectives and operational delivery.
· Provide trusted, senior-level HR advice and coaching to business leaders across Australia and New Zealand.
· Work with leaders to understand business priorities, workforce risks, resourcing needs and capability requirements.
· Translate business needs into practical people plans, actions and solutions.
· Support organisational design, workforce planning, succession planning and talent discussions.
· Partner with leaders to improve engagement, retention, leadership effectiveness and team performance.
Employee Relations, Industrial Relations and Compliance
The Senior HR Business Partner will provide practical and compliant advice on employee relations, industrial relations and employment matters.
· Advise leaders on performance management, conduct, absence management, grievance matters, workplace investigations and complex employee relations issues.
· Lead or support complex workplace investigations, ensuring matters are managed fairly, consistently and in line with legal and company requirements.
· Support consultation, change management and communication processes relating to organisational change.
· Provide advice on interpretation and application of policies, employment contracts, enterprise agreements and relevant employment legislation.
· Support compliance with Australian workplace legislation, including Fair Work Act obligations, Workplace Gender Equality reporting requirements, and company governance requirements.
HR Programs, Projects and Continuous Improvement
The Senior HR Business Partner will contribute to HR initiatives that improve capability, consistency, compliance and employee experience.
· Support the development, review and implementation of HR policies, procedures, templates and frameworks.
· Contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, leadership development, engagement, retention and workforce planning activities.
· Analyse HR data and people metrics to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
· Support integration, transformation and change initiatives, including workforce transition, contract harmonisation and process improvement activities.
· Mentor and support junior members of the HR team, helping to build capability and consistency in HR service delivery.
Qualification & Experience:
Essential criteria:
· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Industrial Relations, Law or a related discipline is preferred.
· Equivalent professional experience in a senior HR generalist, HR business partnering or employee relations role may be considered.
· Demonstrated knowledge of Australian employment legislation, industrial instruments and contemporary HR practice is required.
The successful candidate will interact with employees across the global business, so we are looking for someone who is culturally astute and has excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Highly desirable criteria:
· Experience in a senior HR generalist, HR business partnering or employee relations role.
· Demonstrated experience partnering with senior leaders in a complex, multi-site or project-based environment.
· Strong working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, enterprise agreements, workplace investigations and employee relations processes.
· Experience supporting organisational change, consultation, workforce planning, talent management and leadership development.
· Experience developing or improving HR policies, procedures, frameworks and governance processes.
· Ability to interpret HR metrics and workforce data to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
· Strong communication, influencing and coaching skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with leaders and employees.
· Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver practical HR solutions in a fast-paced environment.
· Experience in rail, engineering, infrastructure, construction, manufacturing, resources or another safety-critical industry would be highly regarded.
