Description

The snapshot

Staffstream is hiring a Company Accountant for an Australian outdoor lifestyle brand operating in the camping, hiking, and adventure equipment market. They design and distribute premium products through an international supply chain, with manufacturing partners in China and a strong ecommerce and retail presence in Australia, across several related entities including operations in China and the US.

This is a genuinely commercial accounting role, not just transactional bookkeeping. The Head of Finance wants to be able to look at the balance sheet and know it's accurate right now, not just get a clean set of historical numbers at month end. You'd own reconciliations, intercompany accounts, and balance sheet reporting across multiple entities, working closely with the wider finance and operations teams to bring shipping and inventory data into the accounts accurately. Some of the finance function's processes exist but aren't fully documented yet, so you'll need to be comfortable working things out, asking good questions, and helping build clearer SOPs as you go, not waiting for a fully mapped-out playbook on day one. This role is open to candidates based in the Philippines.

What you will actually do

Reconciliations and balance sheet reporting

  • Perform comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations across all entities, keeping every account accurate, current, and properly documented ahead of management reporting.
  • Maintain clean, accurate general ledger records in Xero across Australian and international entities, proactively identifying and resolving variances.
  • Provide management with real-time balance sheet visibility, turning reconciliation and reporting outputs into clear, actionable financial insight.

Intercompany loans and multi-entity management

  • Manage and reconcile intercompany loan accounts across the group's Australian, Chinese, and potentially US entities, making sure every intercompany transaction is accurately recorded and properly documented.
  • Maintain accurate intercompany account balances and support the Head of Finance with intercompany reconciliation, settlement, and reporting each period.

Supply chain and inventory accounting

  • Integrate shipping, inventory, and logistics data from the business's inventory management platform (Cin7 or a comparable system) into financial reporting, including inventory movements, landed cost calculations, and stock valuations.
  • Work closely with the supply chain and operations teams to understand inventory flows across international sourcing and distribution, and translate that operational activity into accurate, timely financial entries.
  • Support the accounting of international freight, customs duties, and logistics costs, making sure they're correctly allocated across entities and captured accurately in cost of goods reporting.

Financial reporting and management accounts

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for the Head of Finance and senior leadership, including P&L, balance sheet, and cashflow statements across all entities.
  • Maintain reporting dashboards and financial models, keeping outputs accurate, current, and genuinely useful for commercial decision-making.

SOPs, process improvement, and payroll support

  • Create, document, and maintain standard operating procedures for key finance processes, building institutional knowledge and reducing manual risk across the function.
  • Support the Head of Finance with payroll administration when required, including fortnightly payment processing support and payroll-related reconciliations. This is a secondary responsibility, not the core of the role.

What you need to bring

  • Demonstrated experience as a Company Accountant, Commercial Accountant, or similar senior finance role, ideally combining public accounting or accounting firm experience with meaningful industry or commercial accounting experience. A background spanning both is genuinely preferred here.
  • Strong technical experience in supply chain accounting, inventory-based business environments, and multi-entity financial management, including intercompany loan management and consolidated reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Xero for multi-entity accounting, reconciliations, and financial management across Australian and international entities.
  • Experience with Power BI for financial reporting and dashboard management.
  • A genuine ability to keep the balance sheet accurate on an ongoing, real-time basis, not just get it clean for month-end reporting. This is the single most important thing to the Head of Finance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously: identifying issues independently, applying sound commercial judgement, and communicating findings clearly.
  • Comfort navigating some ambiguity and imperfect documentation, and a willingness to help build out clearer processes rather than waiting for a finished playbook.

Nice to have

  • CPA or CA qualification, or significant progress toward accreditation, given the seniority and complexity of the role.
  • Experience with Cin7 or a comparable inventory and supply chain management platform, with the ability to integrate operational data into financial reporting.
  • Experience working with international entities, particularly operations in China and/or the United States, including cross-border accounting, foreign currency, and intercompany transaction management.
  • Experience creating and maintaining SOPs and finance process documentation, ideally in a tool like Confluence.

The setup

  • This role is open to Philippines-based candidates.
  • Fully remote, working full Australian business hours
  • Staffstream provides your work-from-home equipment.

What's in it for you

A stable, full-time role with a business that genuinely needs you and wants you to grow into it. You'd be trusted to own your area, not micromanaged, working with a small team that values someone who can take things off their plate and run with them. On top of that, Staffstream looks after you properly:
  • HMO health cover, with one dependent covered for free.
  • Group life insurance.
  • Paid leave credits.
  • Work-from-home equipment provided.

You're employed compliantly under Philippine law: a proper local employment contract, your taxes handled correctly, and all your government-mandated benefits (SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG) plus 13th month pay. That means real security and peace of mind, not a loose freelance arrangement. Everything is above board and looked after for you.
