Description
At Urban Utilities, our purpose is simple yet powerful – Enrich Quality of Life. With a $7 billion asset base and services spanning 1.5 million residents and more than 31,000 commercial customers across South East Queensland, we are committed to enhancing the liveability of our communities every day.
Your opportunity:
Help shape the future of wastewater treatment and biosolids management for one of Australia's fastest-growing regions.
Urban Utilities is looking for a Senior Process or Chemical Engineer who thrives on complexity and wants to solve challenges that matter.
As a Senior Integrated Treatment Planner, you'll work at the intersection of engineering, strategy, science, investment and sustainability, helping guide decisions that will shape wastewater treatment and biosolids management for decades to come. From planning for growth and changing regulations to evaluating emerging technologies and managing uncertainty, you'll tackle some of the water sector's most important and complex challenges.
This is an opportunity to move beyond writing reports and recommendations to influencing decisions that become reality. Working with experts across operations, planning, environment and delivery, you'll develop long-term plans, identify investment priorities and help create practical solutions that deliver lasting benefits for customers, communities and the environment.
You will:
Develop long-term strategies and investment pathways across wastewater treatment and biosolids systems.
Turn complex technical, operational, regulatory and growth information into clear recommendations and actionable plans.
Assess treatment performance, capacity, resilience and optimisation opportunities.
Apply systems thinking to understand trade-offs, risks and future uncertainty.
Develop strategic business cases and planning solutions that inform major infrastructure decisions.
Collaborate across disciplines to achieve sustainable, whole-of-system outcomes.
About you:
You’re a systems thinker who loves complexity and diving deep into technical problems, while being comfortable navigating ambiguity, balancing competing priorities, and converting analysis into clear, actionable steps. Most importantly, you're motivated by making a meaningful impact through engineering and planning.
Essential:
Degree in Process/Chemical or Environmental Engineering.
Strong technical background in sewage/wastewater treatment processes through planning, design, optimisation or operations.
Experience working on complex technical investigations and problem solving.
Ability to synthesise data, evidence and stakeholder perspectives into robust recommendations and executive-ready materials.
Strong stakeholder skills — collaborate, challenge constructively, and bring people on the journey.
Experience in biosolids management, adaptive planning, process modelling, asset planning or strategic investment planning will be highly regarded.
