Job Requisition ID #

Autodesk is seeking a Principal Product Designer to define the experience

direction for a strategic area within Autodesk Forma, our SaaS platform for

construction management.

In this role, you will develop a deep understanding of the construction domain

and use it to shape product strategy, influence roadmap decisions, and create a

clear experience vision that extends beyond a single feature or team. You will

connect customer journeys across product areas, identify opportunities for

greater consistency and value, and help teams navigate complex customer,

business, and technical trade-offs.

You will partner with senior leaders across Product Management, Engineering,

Research, and Design to build alignment and guide high-impact decisions. You

will also contribute to strategic planning, establish experience principles and

reusable frameworks, and raise the quality of thinking and execution across a

globally distributed design organization.

Strong hands-on design craft remains essential. You will use customer

journeys, prototypes, interaction models, and detailed product solutions to

explore possibilities, make strategy tangible, and set a high standard for quality.

This is a highly visible individual-contributor role for a design leader who can

operate independently, influence across organizational boundaries, and help

shape the future of our Forma Construction tools.

Responsibilities

Define the experience strategy and long-term design direction for a

strategic product area, connecting it to broader customer journeys and the

Autodesk Forma platform.

Develop deep domain expertise and translate customer, product, business,

and technology insights into clear priorities, experience principles, and

strategic recommendations.

Partner with senior Product and Engineering leaders to shape product

strategy, influence roadmap decisions, and guide complex prioritization and

investment trade-offs.Principal Product Designer1

Identify and lead opportunities that span multiple products, workflows, or

teams, building alignment around a cohesive end-to-end customer

experience.

Create and evolve experience frameworks, workflow models, interaction

patterns, and design-system approaches that can scale beyond a single

product team.

Shape the direction of AI-powered experiences, ensuring emerging

capabilities deliver meaningful customer value and are understandable,

responsible, and trustworthy.

Lead ambiguous, high-impact initiatives with a high degree of autonomy,

balancing long-term strategic outcomes with multiple concurrent priorities.

Use exceptional hands-on design and prototyping skills to explore strategic

opportunities, communicate direction, and establish a high standard for

product quality.

Lead design reviews, planning conversations, and cross-functional forums

that strengthen decisions, resolve ambiguity, and create alignment among

diverse stakeholders.

Extend the impact of Design through mentoring, thoughtful critique, and

collaboration with designers across global teams.

Basic Qualifications

8+ years of professional product design experience, including work on

complex SaaS, enterprise, or platform products.

A portfolio demonstrating strong strategic thinking, systems thinking,

exceptional design craft, and impact across complex product experiences.

Proven experience defining experience vision and product direction—not

only delivering against an established roadmap.

Demonstrated ability to influence product strategy and senior stakeholder

decisions without formal authority.

Experience connecting workflows, customer journeys, or systems across

multiple products or teams.

Experience creating scalable experience frameworks, interaction patterns,

or design-system solutions.Principal Product Designer2

Experience designing AI-enabled products or applying human-centered

design principles to AI-assisted workflows.

Ability to independently lead multiple complex initiatives while maintaining

strategic focus and a high quality bar.

Excellent communication, storytelling, facilitation, and collaboration skills,

including experience working across distributed global teams.

Advanced proficiency with Figma, prototyping tools, and modern product

design workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing products for construction, AECO, or another complex

and domain-rich industry.

Experience contributing to quarterly planning, portfolio prioritization, or

other strategic product-planning processes.

Experience mentoring experienced designers and raising design quality

across multiple teams.

Experience establishing new ways of working, decision-making

frameworks, or design practices adopted across an organization.
