The Executive Vice President & Chief Digital Officer will serve as one of the principal architects of this transformation.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Digital Strategy & Transformation
Develop and execute a comprehensive enterprise digital strategy aligned with First Choice 2030 and system-wide transformation priorities.
Translate enterprise strategy into a sequenced digital roadmap spanning infrastructure modernization, interoperability, analytics, AI, automation, and patient engagement technologies.
Ensure alignment of digital investments with clinical, operational, financial, and academic priorities.
Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Board on digital transformation, cybersecurity risk, AI governance, and technology-enabled competitive positioning.
Clinical & Operational Digital Enablement
Partner with the Chief Clinical Officer and Chief Quality Officer to deploy digital tools that improve quality, safety, throughput, documentation integrity, care coordination, and clinical performance.
Optimize electronic health record (EHR) platforms, clinical decision support systems, and interoperability across inpatient, ambulatory, virtual, and post-acute settings.
Support value-based care initiatives through advanced analytics, risk stratification, predictive modeling, and population health platforms.
Enable operational excellence through automation, AI-enabled workflows, robotics process automation (RPA), and productivity analytics.
Data, Analytics & Artificial Intelligence
Establish a unified enterprise data architecture and governance framework.
Develop advanced analytics capabilities that provide real-time, actionable insights across quality, access, growth, financial performance, workforce, and research domains.
Lead responsible deployment of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications across clinical, operational, academic, and research functions.
Ensure AI governance structures address safety, ethics, bias mitigation, regulatory compliance, and transparency.
Build a scalable analytics infrastructure to support risk-based contracting, financial modeling, performance dashboards, and enterprise decision-making.
Cybersecurity & Infrastructure
Ensure robust cybersecurity posture aligned with healthcare regulatory requirements and best practices.
Oversee enterprise technology infrastructure including networks, cloud strategy, end-user computing, telecommunications, and disaster recovery.
Develop and maintain business continuity and cybersecurity response frameworks.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, DNV, and other applicable federal and state standards.
Digital Patient & Consumer Experience
Advance digital front door strategies including patient portals, mobile platforms, telehealth, remote monitoring, and consumer access tools.
Improve access, scheduling, digital registration, and payment platforms to enhance patient convenience and satisfaction.
Leverage digital tools to support health equity, community engagement, and improved care navigation.
Academic & Research Digital Enablement
Partner with Albany Medical College leadership to modernize research informatics, clinical trials infrastructure, data sharing, and AI-enabled discovery platforms.
Support digital education platforms and simulation technologies to advance academic excellence.
Facilitate secure research data integration while maintaining compliance and cybersecurity standards.
Financial Stewardship & Capital Planning
Evaluate and prioritize digital capital investments with clear ROI frameworks and performance metrics.
Oversee IT and digital operating budgets with disciplined financial stewardship.
Align technology investments with long-term capital strategy and enterprise financial sustainability goals.
Organizational Leadership & Culture
Lead and develop a high-performing digital and IT organization with enterprise mindset and execution discipline.
Establish governance structures that balance enterprise standardization with local operational flexibility.
Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, cybersecurity awareness, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate closely with Human Resources to build digital talent pipelines, succession planning, and workforce capability maturity.
Represent AMHS in regional and national digital health forums, partnerships, and innovation ecosystems.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field.
Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MS, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in digital strategy, healthcare IT, data analytics, or technology transformation within a complex, multi-entity organization.
At least 7–10 years in senior or executive leadership roles within an academic medical center, integrated delivery system, or large healthcare organization.
Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives, including EHR optimization, analytics modernization, and cybersecurity advancement.
Experience aligning digital strategy with value-based care, clinical integration, operational excellence, and financial performance.
Strong financial acumen including capital planning, budgeting, and ROI analysis.
Experience presenting digital strategy and cybersecurity risk to boards and executive leadership teams.
Preferred:
Experience leading AI governance and enterprise analytics platforms in healthcare environments.
Experience in academic medicine, research informatics, or clinical trials digital infrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to scale digital platforms across multi-hospital or system integrations.
Exposure to venture, innovation partnerships, or technology ecosystem collaboration.
