Description
An established histopathology laboratory in Parktown North, Johannesburg is seeking an experienced and
detail-oriented Medical Technologist – Histopathology to join its team.
The successful candidate will play an important role in the accurate processing and analysis of histopathology
specimens, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and laboratory practice.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform histopathology specimen processing and diagnostic laboratory procedures.
• Ensure accurate specimen identification, labelling, documentation and tracking.
• Perform histological techniques including tissue processing, embedding, staining, microtomy,
coverslipping and immunohistochemistry.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, including microtomes, cryostats,
embedders and stainers.
• Perform and document quality control procedures.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and information on the LIMS.
• Adhere to laboratory quality, safety, infection control and confidentiality requirements.
• Work collaboratively with pathologists, the Laboratory Manager and other laboratory professionals.
• Assist with stock control, laboratory housekeeping and audit preparation.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
Minimum Requirements
• National Diploma in Biomedical Technology, BHSc Laboratory Scientist (Biomedical), or relevant
equivalent qualification.
• Current HPCSA registration in the relevant Histology discipline.
• 3–5 years’ relevant working experience.
• Practical experience in histopathology/histology laboratory techniques.
• Knowledge of laboratory quality control and safety procedures.
• Experience working with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
• Willingness to work overtime and occasional Saturdays, as required.
