WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Office of Eligibility and Support Services (OESS) is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic professional to serve as a TERM Government Assistance Eligibility Specialist I and help us achieve our mission. OESS determines eligibility for State, Federal, and County programs for low-income individuals, families, and vulnerable populations. This position determines eligibility for assistance programs administered by the Maryland Department of Health and the Family Investment Administration of the Maryland Department of Human Services.
Primary duties of this position will include, but will not be limited to:
- Interviewing, processing, and completing intake applications and redeterminations in Maryland Health Connection for all public benefit programs and completing actions necessary to continue or terminate benefits in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Completing case management functions in all cases assigned, including:
- Screening walk-in customers
- Obtaining and verifying information necessary to determine eligibility
- Making referrals to other agencies when appropriate.
- Facilitating customer efforts in accessing information.
- Partnering with other public and private service providers, as needed.
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Candidates with Basic Multilingual skills in Spanish and the ability to provide interpretation services to Spanish-speaking customers are preferred.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Experience: None.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Medical Protocol: If selected for this position, you will be required to undergo a medical evaluation and drug screening to assess your ability to safely perform the essential duties of the role, which will be a significant factor in the final hiring decision.
Preferred Criteria:
The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevance of training, and experience in the following areas:
- Experience applying Federal, State, and County regulations pertaining to eligibility for Maryland Medicaid and Maryland Children's Health Program, and Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansion or County Health Programs.
- Experience navigating through eligibility systems such as Maryland Health Connection, Enrollment and Eligibility, Medicaid Management Information System, and BEACON, and eICM automated eligibility systems and databases.
Interview Criteria:
Interview preference criteria will be used pertaining to:
- Experience working in the human services sector. Preference is given to experience in means-tested programs.
- Customer service experience. Preference is given to general office, technical, or administrative experience.
- Experience working with computer applications. Preference is given to knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Ability to multitask in a high-volume work environment.
