Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Evening and weekend work is required as job duties demand. Opportunities for hybrid work depending on schedule and day of week.
Unclassified Positions:
A person who has been selected by an appointing authority in accordance with the Columbus City Charter, Section 148(1) is said to have received an unclassified appointment. Those individuals receiving unclassified appointments serve at the pleasure of their appointing authority and may be terminated from employment at any time. • Provide administrative and clerical support for the office, including arranging the logistics of public hearings, meetings, monitor and respond to incoming calls as well as written and electronic mail, draft and create correspondence, certificates, resolutions, ordinances, letters of recommendation, and other documents, maintain public records for the office and direct requests to appropriate person.
• Maintain seamless customer service as the primary point of contact when collaborating with city departments, public agencies, and other organizations to address and resolve constituent concerns and other situations, coordinate and communicate responses, resolution of issues, and ongoing work with constituents and other interested parties. Greet and welcome visitors; assist persons who have appointments with Council President Pro-Tem or the legislative aide, and work to ensure appointments are on time and that the member/aide is aware of a visitor’s arrival; may attend meetings and events as requested by the Council President Pro-Tem’s office.
• Assist in creating social media content including posts, graphics, videos and images. Contribute input on activity and coordinate responses to social media inquiries and captions to develop and expand community outreach efforts.
• Support the office with event planning, coordinating, and day-of execution as well as staff the Councilmember at various community events to include President Pro-Tem Dorans’ annual Labor Day celebration.
• Maintains files and records of activities being conducted.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred in public administration, business or related field. Two to three years of work experience in an administrative or assistant role at the executive level, preferably in the public sector, working with municipal management and/or elected officials and community groups. Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of MS Office Suite and Google Suite. Proficiency in Canva or graphic design is a plus.
