Modern Controls Engineer
Location: New Hudson, MI (Onsite)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Modern Controls Engineer to lead the development of advanced embedded control systems for highly sophisticated vehicle platforms. This is a hands-on engineering position responsible for designing, modeling, implementing, validating, and integrating modern control algorithms throughout the complete product development lifecycle.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience developing motion control systems from the ground up using both classical and modern control methodologies, along with strong expertise in MATLAB/Simulink and embedded software development.
This position is onsite Monday through Friday with occasional travel to regional test facilities.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop advanced embedded control systems
- Develop motion control algorithms using both classical and modern control techniques
- Perform system stability, robustness, and performance analysis
- Design and tune multi-loop and multi-axis control architectures
- Develop model-based control solutions using MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow
- Deploy control algorithms into embedded C/C++ environments
- Perform Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), bench, and vehicle testing
- Support system integration, commissioning, calibration, and troubleshooting
- Develop mathematical models of electromechanical, hydraulic, and vehicle systems
- Perform system identification and model validation using test data
- Define performance metrics and verify system requirements
- Support controller hardware selection and system architecture
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, software, and system integration issues
- Support vehicle-level testing and field validation
Required Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
- 8+ years of controls engineering experience
- Strong experience developing motion control algorithms from concept through production
- Expert knowledge of MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow
- Experience implementing model-based controls in embedded systems
- Strong C/C++ programming experience for embedded applications
- Ability to work onsite in New Hudson, Michigan
- Ability to obtain U.S. Government security clearance
