The Mariners’ Museum and Park is seeking a Safety and Protective Services Associate to join our team and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment where our visitors, employees, collections, and facilities can thrive. The Safety and Protective Services Associates are not only incident responders, they are part of The Mariners’ prevention and risk-reduction program. Success means identifying risks early, taking appropriate action, and helping prevent incidents before they occur. The position brings together security, safety, fire and life-safety inspections, visitor service, and emergency response, providing an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the safety and experience of everyone who visits and works at The Mariners’ Museum and Park.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $17.00 plus a full benefits package. The Mariners’ Museum and Park is open seven days a week, and shifts will include some weekends and holidays.

Duties:

• Conduct routine patrols and identify security, safety, and fire hazards.
• Perform and document routine fire and life-safety inspections, including fire extinguishers, AEDs, exits, evacuation routes, fire doors, emergency equipment, and potential fire hazards.
• Assist museum departments with the Hazard Communication (HazCom) Program, including supporting chemical labeling, Safety Data Sheet access, and general program compliance.
• Report deficiencies and assist with corrective-action follow-up.
• Protect museum collections, exhibitions, facilities, visitors, and employees.
• Monitor galleries, entrances, restricted areas, CCTV, alarms, and access-control systems as assigned.
• Respond to medical emergencies, fire alarms, safety incidents, suspicious activity, disruptive behavior, and other emergencies.
• Assist with evacuations, emergency drills, and preparedness activities.
• Provide professional visitor assistance while maintaining situational awareness.
• Complete accurate inspection records, incident reports, and other required documentation.
• Participate in required security, safety, fire/life-safety, first aid/AED, and emergency-response training.
• Work collaboratively with other Mariners’ departments to identify and reduce risk.
• May have to perform standby duties.

Requirements

 Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Strong observational, communication, and customer-service skills.
• Ability to identify, document, and report security and safety concerns.
• Ability to remain calm and follow established procedures during emergencies.
• Ability to complete inspections and written reports accurately.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• The position requires regular walking and standing throughout museum facilities and may include indoor and outdoor assignments. Schedules may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
• May be required to perform standby/on-call duties outside of normal operational hours and respond to security, safety, facility, or emergency situations as needed.

Education and Experience: 

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required. 
• Previous security, safety, museum, emergency-response, hospitality, or customer-service experience is preferred.
• Must have the ability to obtain various Mariners’ sponsored safety and emergency response certifications. 

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be able to pass a background check and possess a clear motor vehicle record  prior to employment.
