Job Description:
This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution aligned to the enterprise architecture strategy, technology, and platform choices. Key responsibilities include describing the solution intent/associated operating environment, evaluating system impacts, determining the primary systems/sub-systems and their interfaces, and assisting with end-to-end solution design. Job expectations include defining non-functional requirements/architectural runway to support new epics/features and ensuring solutions are fit for purpose by working with stakeholders and service providers.
Overview:
The Operational Intelligence Team seeks a strong engineer to develop, document and drive the monitoring strategy and its adoption and evolution with a focus on standards and application instrumentation for critical Banking Applications.
Architect that will participate in the development and implementation of monitoring strategy and solutions aligned as core to the business information flows and systems architecture. This individual provides integrated systems planning and recommends new or different technologies that will enhance current systems and support overall corporate and business goals aligned to the Application Production Support monitoring strategy. Recommends the appropriate monitoring capabilities in support of business process and is responsible for delivery of aligned capabilities across critical business applications. Serves as a fully seasoned/proficient technical resource; providing leadership in the execution of aligned as a team member or as an individual contributor.
This is a unique opportunity to work with Business, Application Development and Support teams, Monitoring Tools teams and to create Monitoring Requirements and build end-end monitoring solutions to support applications.
This is not an application development role, however experience working in some capacity with an application development team - understanding how different components in an application work together, interaction with the middleware, system software and Hardware is essential. Diverse engineering skills to architect and implement monitoring solutions
Responsibilities:
- Consults with the business and operations to identify and understand challenges and opportunities to improve the use and effectiveness of technology, find creative solutions through knowledge of the domain, practical experiments, and Proof of Concepts, and aligns the solution intent and architectural vision to an evolving backlog of technology change
- Works with product management and other stakeholders to plan and prioritize technology focused backlog items for the architecture runway to enable business epics/features
- Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements for a solution are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
- Leads rapid shaping of a high level architecture with details filled in with emerging business requirements and ensures architecture is flexible, modular, and designed to adapt easily
- Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
- Clarifies the architecture and assists with system design for the development teams to support implementation and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
- Utilizes the defined best practices, templates, and documentation to create architectural designs and suggests improvements to best practices and templates
- Rollout of the strategic monitoring tool across Banking APS applications
- SME for monitoring tools that form part of the global monitoring strategy
- Monitoring setup for Applications on Cloud and Containers infrastructure
- Host demos, overviews, and training of the monitoring tools for adoption across teams, preparing related materials to support sessions and adoption of tools (presentations, operational manuals etc.)
- Liaise with APS in the planning and scheduling of deployments
- Consult with APS teams and assist in configuration of monitoring events/dashboards to maximize the potential and use of monitoring tool
- Preparation of reporting of monitoring tools adoption and other related data points and other relevant metrics
- Participate in global discussions on the continuation and evolution on global monitoring strategy
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years production systems Architecting and/or support role
- Proven experience with supporting monitoring tools such as – Dynatrace, Tivoli, Splunk, Sitescope, Catchpoint
- Familiarity with supporting monitoring on Cloud and Containers infrastructure
- Knowledge of OS (Windows/Unix) based infrastructure services, processing, monitoring, shell scripts, etc.
- Proven experience in programming languages (Java and Python)
- Proven experience in application/network performance and availability monitoring
- Proven experience in N-Tier Architecture supporting a multitude of products (Webserver, Middleware, Database, etc.)
- Knowledge of ITIL functions and processes
- An excellent communicator, able to network and influence across multiple levels is required of this role
- A self-motivated, hands-on, driven individual
- A strategic thinker who can link business context to technical reality
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous experience in development and/or support of Banking applications.
- Experience in Major Incident Management
- The ideal candidate will have experience working and being successful in a large, multi-data center enterprise environment
