Responsibilities

Overview:

The Tax Senior Associate / Associate - Gift Tax will support the preparation of US tax returns and related workpapers with a focus on gift tax filings and high-net-worth individual tax matters. This role is suited for a tax professional with foundational to intermediate US tax experience and exposure to gift tax reporting, documentation, and compliance requirements.

 

  • Prepare or assist in preparing US gift tax returns, including Form 709 and related supporting schedules.
  • Gather and organize client-provided gift documentation, valuation reports, trust information, and other supporting data.
  • Assist in preparing tax workpapers and summaries related to lifetime gifts, annual exclusions, generation-skipping transfer considerations, and taxable gift calculations.
  • Support individual income tax return preparation for high-net-worth individuals, as assigned.
  • Identify missing information, inconsistencies, or documentation gaps and escalate them to senior team members for review.
  • Research gift tax rules and related federal tax guidance under supervision.
  • Maintain organized documentation and ensure assigned tasks are completed within agreed timelines.
  • Collaborate with team members during busy season to support timely and accurate client deliverables.

Qualifications

Your Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in US tax preparation, preferably with individual, fiduciary, estate, or gift tax exposure.
  • Experience preparing or supporting Form 709 gift tax returns is required or strongly preferred.
  • Good understanding of US individual taxation and willingness to deepen technical knowledge in gift tax matters.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with sensitive financial and client information accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with tax preparation software.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while escalating technical questions appropriately.
  • Flexible work hours and onsite work

Bonus:

  • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, family offices, trusts, estates, or private client tax groups.
  • Exposure to estate tax returns, fiduciary income tax returns, or trust accounting is a plus.
  • Experience with tax software such as UltraTax, CCH Axcess, GoSystem, ProConnect, Lacerte, or similar platforms.
  • CPA license or active progress toward CPA certification is preferred but not required.
