Description

This position is responsible for assisting in the development, administration, and supervision of the athletic training program for the assigned program(s), specifically Men's Basketball. This position also assists in coordinating and executing all primary and secondary insurance claims concerning student athlete injury and treatment. Sponsorship is not available for this position. Final salary grade, salary, and job title (Assistant Athletic Trainer, Assistant Head Athletic Trainer, Associate Athletic Trainer, Associate Head Athletic Trainer, etc.) will be determined by the successful candidate's education and experience.  Salary is negotiable, beginning at $50K.
  • Observe and evaluate the health status of student athletes during practices and competitions;
  • Make referrals to team physicians;
  • Provide direct supervision over all assigned program(s), specifically Men's Basketball;
  • Provide direct supervision over all assigned program(s) practices/workouts, specifically Men's Basketball;
  • Travel with Men’s Basketball team to and from all competitions;
  • Oversight for the health and wellness of all assigned program(s), specifically Men's Basketball;
  • Assist in maintaining health records of all student athletes using the athletic training room;
  • Assist in the supervision of graduate assistants and student employees;
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures;
  • Assist in the administration of drug-screening programs for all student athletes;
  • Assist in the administration of insurance coverage for all student athletes, both domestic and international;
  • Assist the department head, coworkers, and team physicians in pre-participation physical examinations;
  • Assist in determining and maintaining proper coverage for all sports;
  • Work with the team physicians in determining an athlete's status of return to play to their respective sport;
  • Assist in coordinating with health services regarding the health status of the student athletes;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
To be determined.
  • Bachelor's degree in health/physical education or athletic training is required;
  • Master’s degree is preferred;
  • Collegiate-level athletic training experience is strongly preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification certified, required;
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Alabama, required; 
  • Current and ongoing CPR certification is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 
  • Knowledge of injuries/illnesses, prevention of such, and rehabilitation from;
  • Knowledge of wellness promotion and education;
  • Knowledge of emergent care;
  • Knowledge of examination and clinical diagnosis;
  • Knowledge of therapeutic intervention;
  • Knowledge of injury rehabilitation and medical conditions;
  • Ability to interact with and effectively communicate with a diverse array of students, parents, administrators, staff, visitors, and the general public;
  • Ability to provide care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values, and ensuring that patient values and regulations guide all clinical decisions;
  • Ability to travel to and from competitions;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in maintaining health records of students;
  • Ability to supervise student workers;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to administer drug screenings and physicals for student athletes;
  • Ability to assist with updating policies and procedures as requested.
