About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll help shape the next generation of MRI technology used by clinicians and patients around the world. This is an opportunity to work on complex software systems that directly power medical imaging equipment, solving challenging problems at the intersection of software, hardware, and healthcare.

You'll design, develop, test, and support software components for GE HealthCare MR scanners, collaborating closely with software engineers, systems engineers, product leaders, and domain experts. Your work will contribute to reliable, high-quality solutions that help improve patient outcomes and advance healthcare innovation.

This role is ideal for experienced software engineers who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, working in Linux environments, and developing software that interfaces with physical devices in highly regulated industries.

This position is based in Waukesha, WI and requires regular onsite collaboration with engineering teams. Candidates should be comfortable working closely with cross-functional teams in an in-person environment.

Job Description

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software components and features for GE HealthCare MR scanners.
  • Collaborate closely with representative users, feature leads, systems engineers, and subject matter experts to define and implement innovative solutions.
  • Develop software within Agile development practices and a continuous integration environment.
  • Apply modern software engineering principles including software architecture, design, testing, security, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to the development and support of distributed and microservices-based applications.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues across software and system environments.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across development, sustaining, and support organizations.
  • Partner with domain experts to learn and apply complex healthcare and imaging system knowledge.
  • Write clear, maintainable, well-tested code that meets quality and performance standards.
  • Share knowledge, mentor team members, and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or another STEM field.
  • 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and supporting production software applications.
  • Strong experience working in Unix/Linux development environments.
  • Experience designing and developing distributed systems or microservices-based applications.
  • Experience building software that interfaces with hardware, instruments, sensors, or other physical devices.
  • Experience with software version control, configuration management, and build tools such as Git, Perforce, Maven, or Gradle.
  • Experience working with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools such as Jenkins and Artifactory.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including requirements development, architecture, implementation, verification, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging complex software systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other STEM discipline.
  • Experience developing software for regulated industries such as medical devices, aerospace, industrial automation, telecommunications, robotics, or defense.
  • Experience with medical imaging systems or medical device software development.
  • Experience with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) frameworks such as Cucumber/Gherkin.
  • Experience with REST APIs and modern service-oriented architectures.
  • Python scripting experience.
  • Experience with Cypress or automated testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with FDA-regulated software development environments.
