Apprentice Forklift Technician

Position Overview

Total Warehouse is seeking a mechanically inclined individual who wants to build a long-term career while supporting shop, rental fleet, and service operations. 

This is primarily a shop and fleet-support position during the initial development period, not an immediate field-repair assignment. The apprentice will receive paid, hands-on training in rental equipment preparation, return inspections, battery care, planned maintenance, equipment movement, TW Mobile, documentation, and internal processes. As skills and readiness develop, the apprentice may progress into advanced repair and field responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities

Rental Fleet Operations

•  Prepare rental equipment for customer delivery, including cleaning, staging, basic checks, and readiness verification.
•  Perform rental return inspections and document equipment condition, damage, operating hours, and required follow-up.
•  Support fleet organization, asset tracking, and equipment staging.

Battery & Power Systems

•  Charge, water, clean, and maintain industrial batteries.
•  Follow battery-handling, charging, PPE, and safety procedures.
•  Assist with charger inspections, battery testing, and documentation.

Shop Operations

•  Load and unload forklifts and warehouse equipment using approved procedures.
•  Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop, including work areas, tools, equipment, and housekeeping.
•  Assist technicians with shop repairs, equipment testing, and quality-control activities.

Planned Maintenance

•  Perform Planned Maintenance services and inspections under appropriate technician supervision.
•  Learn basic electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, battery, charger, and fuel-system fundamentals.
•  Identify visible wear, damage, leaks, and service needs for technician or supervisor review.

Technology & Documentation

•  Learn and use TW Mobile, work-order standards, asset tracking, and internal service processes.
•  Complete accurate inspection, maintenance, and equipment-condition documentation.
•  Follow Total Warehouse documentation and communication standards.

Team Support

•  Support shop and field operations as directed by the Service Supervisor and Dispatch.
•  Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and ownership by identifying opportunities to support shop operations, equipment readiness, organization, and team success without requiring constant direction.
•  Work collaboratively with Service, Dispatch, and Parts teams to support customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
•  Participate in technical training, mentoring, coaching, and continuous improvement activities.

What Success Looks Like

•  Consistently prepares rental equipment to Total Warehouse readiness standards.
•  Completes rental return inspections and documentation accurately.
•  Demonstrates safe battery charging, watering, handling, and maintenance practices.
•  Performs assigned Planned Maintenance tasks correctly under supervision.
•  Uses TW Mobile and follows work-order and documentation standards.
•  Maintains a clean, organized shop and supports equipment loading, unloading, and staging.
•  Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and ownership of assigned responsibilities.
•  Demonstrates a willingness to learn and readiness for increasing technical responsibility.
•  Works effectively with Service, Dispatch, Parts, Rental, and Operations team members.
•  Maintains a customer-focused mindset while supporting internal and external service operations.

Requirements

Required

•  High school diploma or GED.
•  Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
•  Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
•  Basic computer and smartphone skills.
•  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work in shop and field environments.
•  Dependable attendance, strong work ethic, commitment to safety, willingness to perform hands-on shop work, and a demonstrated ability to take initiative, accept coaching, and contribute positively to a team environment.

Preferred

•  Technical school, trade school, or vocational training.
•  Automotive, diesel, construction equipment, industrial maintenance, warehouse, or mechanical experience.
•  Familiarity with forklifts, hand tools, power tools, or equipment operation.
•  Military mechanical experience.
