Restaurant Brands International (RBI) is seeking an experienced Sr. Manager, Payments to support the management and execution of our payments ecosystem across Burger King, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Tim Hortons, and Firehouse Subs in the United States and Canada for a fixed term contract.
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Payments, this role will be responsible for the day-to-day management and execution of key payment activities and initiatives across RBI's brands. The Sr. Manager will help ensure strong payment performance, manage relationships with payment partners, support fraud and chargeback activities, and coordinate cross-functional payment initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines strong payments knowledge with excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills. They will be comfortable working independently within established priorities, managing multiple workstreams, and partnering with internal teams and external vendors to resolve issues and deliver results.
RBI follows a 5 day, in-office work schedule to support collaboration. Candidates will be expected to work onsite 5 days per week out of our office in Toronto, ON.
What You'll Do:
Payments & Business Performance
- Manage and monitor payment performance across RBI brands, including authorization rates, declines, settlement, and other key payment KPIs.
- Serve as a key escalation point for payment issues and coordinate with internal teams and external partners to drive timely resolution.
- Analyze payment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce costs, and enhance the guest experience.
- Provide reporting, insights, and recommendations on payment trends, risks, and opportunities to support business and leadership decisions.
Fraud & Chargebacks
- Support fraud prevention and chargeback management across brands and payment channels.
- Partner with fraud vendors and internal teams to monitor performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements to fraud controls.
- Help balance fraud mitigation with authorization performance and guest experience.
- Support initiatives addressing emerging payment fraud risks.
Vendor & Partner Management
- Manage day-to-day relationships with processors, acquirers, card networks, fraud providers, and other payment partners.
- Lead regular operational and business reviews, track SLAs and partner performance, and drive resolution of issues and outstanding actions.
- Support commercial negotiations through proposal analysis, cost benchmarking, financial analysis, and development of recommendations.
- Escalate significant vendor, operational, or financial issues to the Senior Director as appropriate.
Payments Initiatives
- Manage and support the execution of payment initiatives across brands and channels in alignment with the enterprise payments roadmap.
- Partner with Technology, Digital, Finance, Operations, Loyalty, and Brand teams to implement new payment capabilities and improve existing processes.
- Track initiative progress and surface risks, decisions, and dependencies requiring senior leadership attention.
Payments Risk & Compliance
- Partner with Information Security, Legal, Technology, and payment providers to support payment compliance and risk activities.
- Support PCI DSS requirements, card network mandates, and other payment-related controls and initiatives.
- Help identify and assess operational and financial risks associated with payment changes and issues.
Analytics & Executive Communication
- Develop and maintain payment reporting and dashboards for ongoing business and leadership reviews.
- Perform financial and analytical assessments to support payment recommendations, business cases, and vendor negotiations.
- Prepare clear, executive-ready updates on payment performance, issues, risks, and opportunities.
- Translate complex payment topics into clear business implications and actionable recommendations.
What You'll Need To Succeed:
- 5+ years of experience in payments, fintech, merchant acquiring, financial services, retail technology, or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of the payments ecosystem, including card networks, acquirers, processors, authorization, settlement, interchange, and chargebacks.
- Demonstrated experience managing payment vendors and working with external partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into clear recommendations.
- Experience managing multiple projects or workstreams in a complex, cross-functional environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
What Sets You Apart:
- Experience in QSR, restaurant, hospitality, or multi-unit retail.
- Experience supporting a franchised operating model.
- Familiarity with fraud prevention, chargebacks, tokenization, digital wallets, and alternative payment methods.
- Experience working with Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, processors, acquirers, and payment technology providers.
- Experience with PCI DSS and broader payment risk and compliance requirements.
- Experience with payment cost analysis, interchange optimization, or processor negotiations.
Base salary range of $120,000 – $137,000 CAD. Base salary for this position may vary based on relevant factors such as experience, education, location, and skills. This position is not eligible to participate in the Company’s annual discretionary bonus plan.
