Description
Perform basic tree trimming, pruning, topping and removal; assist in digging, balling and burlapping of plants and trees for transplanting and operate powered and non-powered hand tools.
This is a Training and Certification Program position.

One (1) year of general grounds maintenance, forestry or nursery experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a Forestry Worker Certificate, Level I Certificate within ninety (90) days from date of hire.Environmental:
Field environment; exposure to inclement weather conditions; work around construction equipment.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.

- Prunes trees and shrubs using hand tools or power equipment; climb trees using proper safety equipment including ropes and belts.
- Dig, ball and burlap trees or shrubs for transplanting using proper soil preparation techniques and methods; plant nursery stock; water plants manually as directed.
- Operate and maintain light and medium size trucks; transport tools, materials and equipment to and from job sites.
- Under licensed supervision, assist with the preparation and mixing of pesticides and herbicides and apply in accordance with existing State regulations to control insects, pests and unwanted plant growth.
- Operate and perform preventive maintenance of powered and non-powered and other tools.
- Assist with tree brush removal and disposal including clean-up of the area.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
