Position Summary
The Production Integrated Pharmacist is a cross-trained pharmacist responsible for the preparation, verification, and oversight of both sterile and non-sterile compounded medications within a 503A pharmacy. This role ensures compliance with USP <795>, <797>, <800>, applicable state board regulations, and internal SOPs, while supporting production efficiency, quality assurance, and staff development.
Key Responsibilities
Non-Sterile Compounding
- Compound non-sterile preparations in accordance with USP <795>
- Verify formulas, calculations, ingredients, and beyond-use dating (BUD)
- Perform final verification of finished products, labeling, and packaging
- Maintain accurate documentation in batch records and electronic systems
- Support formulation development and SKU optimization
- Train and mentor technicians and interns
- Participate in investigations, deviations, and CAPA activities
Sterile Compounding
- Compound sterile preparations in compliance with USP <797>
- Perform aseptic technique in ISO-classified cleanrooms
- Conduct final verification including visual inspection and documentation
- Ensure environmental monitoring and personnel qualifications are current
- Review and complete sterile batch and release documentation
- Support sterile investigations and quality events
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to USP <795>, <797>, <800>, FDA guidance, and state regulations
- Participate in audits and inspection readiness activities
- Support deviation investigations and root cause analysis
- Maintain inspection-ready documentation
Operational & Cross-Functional Support
- Provide staffing flexibility across sterile and non-sterile areas
- Support workflow optimization and production planning
- Collaborate with Quality, Operations, Sales, and Leadership
- Assist with onboarding and competency assessments
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
- Current and active pharmacist license in Texas
- 3+ years of compounding pharmacy experience
- Experience is sterile and/or non-sterile compounding
- Knowledge of USP <795>, <797>, and <800>
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced pharmacy setting requiring multitasking and attention to detail
- Collaborative team environment with cross-functional exposure to compounding, fulfillment, and clinical coordination
- May require occasional remote or telephonic patient interactions
- Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts
- Frequent use of hands for typing, data entry, and medication preparation
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally
- Visual acuity required for reading prescriptions and verifying medication labels
