Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled BIW (Body in White) Design Engineer responsible for designing and developing vehicle body structures and components. The candidate should have strong experience in automotive BIW design, 3D modelling, 2D detailing and working with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop BIW components and body structures such as side body, floor, roof, pillars, cross members, brackets, doors, hood and other structural parts.
Create and modify 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings as per design requirements.
Perform GD&T, tolerance stack-up and design validation.
Ensure designs meet manufacturing, assembly, quality and safety requirements.
Work on design changes, engineering change requests and design improvements.
Coordinate with manufacturing, tooling, welding, CAE, quality and suppliers for design feasibility.
Perform DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly) studies.
Support prototype development, testing and production activities.
Resolve design and manufacturing issues related to BIW components.
Maintain engineering documentation, BOMs and design specifications.
Follow automotive standards, company design guidelines and customer requirements.
Required Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of Automotive BIW design and development.
Good understanding of sheet metal design and manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of spot welding, laser welding, hemming and joining processes.
Good knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up.
Experience with CAD tools such as CATIA V5, Siemens NX, Creo or similar.
Knowledge of BOM, engineering drawings and product lifecycle/change management.
Understanding of BIW manufacturing and assembly processes.
Preferred Skills :
Experience with OEM/Tier-1 automotive projects.
Knowledge of BIW architecture and vehicle body structure.
Experience in working with suppliers and manufacturing teams.
Knowledge of DFMEA/PFMEA and basic automotive quality standards.
Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
Good communication and coordination skills.
