Job Summary

Summary
Reviews and evaluates continuous, raw video EEG recording data from the Neurology Long Term Monitoring lab (LTM), which provides continuous brain monitoring for inpatients. Pre-screens LTM studies and alerts responding clinicians to abnormal findings and design montages and maintain our montage library and manage a diverse array of clinical software tools. The Clinical Neurophysiologist is also responsible for technologist and clinical fellow education related to reading and interpreting EEG data.

Essential Functions
-Responsible for accurately annotating normal and abnormal EEG findings, recognizing artifacts, seizures and seizure-like EEG patterns, subtle seizures, changes in level of consciousness, and EEG patterns of prognostic significance for a variety of medical conditions.
-Presents EEG/video data and study evolution in daily patient rounds to staff physician/epileptologist, describing current seizures, their frequency, duration and interictal findings.
-Independently writes detailed description of EEG patterns, clinical behavior, seizure semiology, and provides preliminary report to epileptologist/Neurologists and other medical staff.
-Under appropriate supervision, the reader technologist writes reports including pertinent results of previous investigations, current EEG patterns, seizure semiology, mapping results, updated classification, impression of ictal and interictal abnormalities.
-Participates in quality and continuing education initiatives. Supports hospital and division goals and objectives through daily staff coaching, mentoring, education and research initiatives.
-Participate in all required Quality Assurance processes, including the occasional audit and review of other EEG readings and interpretations.


 

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's Degree Neuroscience required or Master's Degree Neuroscience preferred.

Experience
Full time experience reading and interpreting EEGs 1-2 years required and Clinical neurophysiology experience in medical or research environment, or equivalent (fellowship program). 1-2 years preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge in EEG reading, interpretation and report writing.
- Knowledgeable about recording and storage media, concepts of digital recording including appropriate sampling rates, aliasing, Nyquist frequency, sampling skew, amplitude resolution and horizontal resolution (analysis time), digital video specifications, Effects of recording parameters (filters, gain/sensitivity) on EEG waveforms and electrical safety issues of equipment.
- Must be able to follow the lab and hospital infection control policies.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential medical information.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.
