The Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Surface Radars & Sensors Center is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to be the Product Owner of an agile team focused on system performance analysis and verification to support AN/TPY-2 within the Long Range Radars Department. This onsite role is based in Woburn, MA. The Systems Engineering Long Range Radars (SELRR) department provides subject matter expertise for concept development, architectural design, requirements generation & flow-down, modeling and simulation, systems analysis, integration, test and evaluation of world-class Missile Defense & Sensor Systems to be achieved through our people, processes, technology and performance. The AN/TPY‑2 is a missile defense radar capable of detecting, tracking, and discriminating ballistic missiles. Operating in the X‑band portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, it provides high‑resolution target identification, enabling it to distinguish real threats from non‑threats such as launch debris.

 

What You Will Do

• Manage and prioritize the team backlog, ensuring work is properly groomed and translated into clear, actionable user stories with well‑defined acceptance criteria.
• Lead backlog refinement sessions, break down epics into estimable stories, and define clear sprint objectives that align with program priorities.
• Oversee the technical, financial, and schedule execution of your team, managing a portion of the engineering scope for the AN/TPY‑2 program.
• Support planning and execution activities, including milestone development, schedule updates, earned value tracking, and managing competing priorities.
• Contribute to system performance assessment efforts, including threat evaluation and scenario development for system validation.
• Perform requirements verification, Technical Performance Measure (TPM) assessments, trade studies, and system performance gap analyses.
• Provide technical direction, resolve roadblocks, and collaborate effectively with internal and external customers.
• Support proposal efforts for new business opportunities and maintain awareness of team financials, planning activities, and cost‑to‑complete status.

 

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
• Experience in radar data and performance analysis and/or other related areas of systems engineering.
• Experience leading a technical effort.
• Experience in overseeing and/or monitoring technical cost and schedule performance.

 

Qualifications We Prefer

• Expertise in radar systems engineering, performance assessment, and requirements verification.
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and systems engineering tools (e.g., IBM DOORS).
• Strong communication, technical writing, and customer interface skills.
• Familiarity with AN/TPY-2 Systems, and/or Missile Defense programs.
• Experience in hiring, staffing planning, and working within dynamic, time-critical environments.
• Experience working in an Agile environment and/or on Agile development projects.
• Knowledge of Earned Value Management principles and metrics.

• Advanced degree (PhD/Master’s) in Engineering or related discipline
• Active DoD Security Clearance.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
