About Arena Club
Arena Club is building the number one digital marketplace for collectibles. We started by reinventing the hobby with the first-ever digital card show, and we are expanding into new categories so collectors can buy, sell, grade, and showcase everything they care about in one place. Spearheaded by 5x World Series Champion Derek Jeter and serial entrepreneur Brian Lee, our fully digital marketplace is grounded in trust, transparency, and fun, featuring grading and authentication, vaulting, and digital pack openings that let collectors build and display their collections in a personalized online showroom from anywhere in the world.
About the Role
We are seeking a Vice President of Accounting & Tax. As a key member of the team, you'll own the close, the financial statements, controls, and tax posture of a fast-growing collectibles platform. This is a unique opportunity to build and scale a talented accounting team through our next phase of growth. You'll have oversight of accounting, tax, technical accounting, internal controls, and accounting operations. This is a hands-on role that will need to be close to the operational day-to-day while also helping to scale for the long term.
What You’ll Do
- Own all accounting operations: general ledger, revenue, AP/AR, payroll, consolidations, equity accounting, and the monthly, quarterly, and annual close
- Own the ASC 606 revenue framework across every line: marketplace transactions, grading and authentication, vaulting and storage fees, repacks and digital pack openings, and shipping; including the principal versus agent determination for each and the documentation behind it
- Oversee direct and indirect tax reporting, scaling opportunities, and long-term roadmap
- Design and operate the internal control environment, and enable effective control management that doesn’t constrain business growth
- Own the external audit end-to-end: auditor remit, PBC discipline, and a clean opinion delivered on schedule
- Own the accounting technology stack: ERP configuration and roadmap, revenue and close automation, tax engine, and the data pipeline from our platform into the ledger
- Partner with leadership and other cross-functional Finance teams to assess growth opportunities and the associated accounting and tax implications
- Build, mentor, and lead the accounting and tax team
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; active CPA
- 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years leading a team as a Controller, VP of Accounting, or equivalent
- Familiarity with direct and indirect tax topics and ability to assess risk
- Hands-on ERP ownership (NetSuite or equivalent), including implementation or a major re-implementation
- Experience in collectibles, resale, or another category involving custody or physical inventory
- Exposure to money movement and payment operations such as processors, settlement timing, chargebacks, and fraud loss accounting
- Big 4 foundation with subsequent industry operating experience
- AI-forward working style, actively using AI tooling to accelerate reconciliation, documentation, and technical research
