Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Surgery Manager to provide operational and clinical leadership across Surgical Services. This position is responsible for overseeing multiple perioperative departments, leading staff and subordinate leaders, managing resources, and supporting safe, efficient, high-quality patient care.
The Surgery Manager reports to the Director of Surgery Services and works closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, clinical leadership, and other departments. The manager should also be prepared to provide hands-on RN support when necessary to maintain clinical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily operations and patient-care activities throughout Surgical Services.
- Provide leadership for the Operating Room, Pre-Admission Testing, Central Sterile Processing, Ambulatory Services, and Endoscopy.
- Establish departmental objectives that support organizational priorities and clinical standards.
- Manage staffing, scheduling, departmental resources, supplies, equipment, and budget responsibilities.
- Recruit, onboard, train, supervise, and evaluate nurses, surgical technologists, and other department personnel.
- Manage employee performance and participate in compensation decisions, promotions, corrective actions, and terminations as appropriate.
- Coordinate staff orientation, competency validation, continuing education, and professional development.
- Lead performance-improvement initiatives and address operational or clinical issues requiring independent judgment.
- Partner effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, senior leadership, vendors, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies, patient-safety requirements, confidentiality standards, and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Promote a professional, collaborative environment focused on quality, accountability, and patient-centered care.
- Provide staff-level RN coverage when operational needs require clinical support.
Required Qualifications
- Current Alabama Registered Nurse license through the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Current BLS certification.
- ACLS and/or PALS certification when applicable to assigned responsibilities.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience demonstrating management and leadership capabilities.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in surgery, perioperative services, or a closely related surgical environment.
- Ability to relocate to Muscle Shoals, AL
