Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a fully remote Designer – Mechanical with a preference to live near our New Orleans, LA, Baton Rouge, LA, or Houston, TX office. The position will perform computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of mechanical engineering design projects, including developing plans and details as follows: process flow diagrams, piping and instrument diagrams, general arrangements, piping plans, isometrics, and vessel trim. The position will also include support for other discipline plans and details, including architectural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare, edit, and finalize design plans and details using appropriate and efficient methods while adhering to Geosyntec drafting standards.
- Translate multi-discipline engineering concepts into design drawings, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation elements.
- Develop mechanical design drawings and details, including process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, general arrangements, piping plans, isometrics, and vessel trim.
- Incorporate 3D laser scanning, point cloud processing, CAD/BIM integration, cloud collaboration, and related visualization tools into design workflows.
- Analyze sketches, notes, markups, and other input materials to determine drawing set requirements and manage drawing production through creation, review, revision, and finalization.
- Assign work, mentor, train, and supervise CADD technicians; review work products for quality; support collaboration to improve CAD standards and efficiency.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Drafting and a minimum of five (5) years (10+ preferred) of related experience in a professional multi-discipline (civil, structural, chemical, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, automation) engineering setting; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position. - Experience developing mechanical design deliverables for large projects, including equipment locations, process and utility piping, buildings, three-dimensional surfaces, and bills of materials. (required)
- Experience incorporating 3D laser scanning, point cloud processing, registration, visualization, CAD/BIM integration, cloud collaboration, and real-time on-site feedback, and land or aerial surveying/mapping data into design workflows. (required)
- Proficiency with Plant 3D, ReCap, and the latest releases of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and AutoCAD Map 3D, including 3D annotation tools, object and label styles, surface alignments, profiles, pipe networks, surface analyses, and volume calculations. (required)
- Ability to interpret redline drawings, sketches, notes, and complex verbal or written instructions; apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical engineering design situations; and effectively present information to project teams and clients. (required)
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to supervise and communicate with subordinate staff and maintain a collaborative team environment. (required)
- Valid U.S. driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications (preferred):
- Successful Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional examination within the last 3 years.
- Experience developing structural design deliverables for large projects, including cable tray supports, pipe supports, steel platform structures, cross-sections, three-dimensional surfaces, and bills of materials.
- Experience developing architectural and building design deliverables, including building layout, details, room spacing, utilities, and translation of abstract concepts into design drawings.
- Experience developing civil design deliverables, including grading and drainage plans, pile plans, foundation plans, anchor bolt plans, cross-sections, alignments, profiles, three-dimensional surfaces, stormwater management design, and earthwork volumes.
- Experience developing electrical and instrumentation design deliverables, including load lists, one-line diagrams, area classifications, MCC layouts, lighting and receptacle plans, grounding and lightning protection plans, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, loop folders, installation details, and bills of materials.
- Experience developing automation and network infrastructure deliverables, including network architecture, block diagrams, HMIs, and bills of materials, with the ability to translate process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and instrumentation into HMI interface layouts.
- Proficiency with relevant design, GIS, modeling, scanning, and office software, including Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Skype, Adobe PDF, Windows File Explorer, ArcGIS, MicroStation, Revit, Bentley, SOLIDWORKS, Faro, Leica, Wonderware, ESRI ArcMap or equivalent GIS software, and interoperability with related platforms.
- Working knowledge of feature lines, grading groups, assemblies, corridors, geometry, and trigonometry as applied to design workflows.
