TEAM AND ROLE:
Filling this role means you instantly become part of STX’ global expansion. We are looking for an energetic candidate who enjoys combining data, economics, affinity to trading and industry knowledge. Working from our brand-new office location in Sydney, you’ll have immediate and meaningful impact on our Australian activities. You’ll be part of a lean, dynamic and internationally integrated trading team. Based on your analysis of environmental commodity markets, you’ll develop and maintain market models to forecast pricing and supply and demand dynamics. You’ll be required to stay on top of regulatory developments and translate information gathered from market research into quantitative and qualitative conclusions. This is a crucial and influential role supporting the trading team in their short- and long-term strategic decision making. Developing in the role creates the pathway to autonomous trading over time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify trading opportunities in the environmental commodity markets in Australia through in-depth fundamental, technical, statistical and regulatory analysis
- Develop and maintain market models to forecast the supply and demand, future scenarios and its impact on prices
- Make use of both structured and partially unstructured data, improve data collection, cleaning and analysis to identify correlations and causalities with the purpose of coming up with trading ideas, which are then pitched to the desk
- Track regulatory frameworks and compliance markets (e.g. Safeguard Mechanism)
- Review financial and sustainability reports of key companies in the market to contribute towards our market research
- Project managing the creation of dashboards helping the front office in their day-to-day commercial activities (trading decisions, client discussions, …)
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- 1-5 years of experience in the commodities / energy / environmental commodities markets in Australia
- A strong analytical mindset combined with confidence working with large data sets, building models, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative information
- A genuine willingness to gain a deep understanding of environmental commodity markets
- The ability to translate complex analysis and results in clear messages
- Proven coding skills (advanced python preferred)
- A bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Environmental Science, Economics, or a related discipline
- Understanding of financial products (e.g. options, forwards, …)
- Eligible to work in NSW, Australia
