Assists the Director of Dental Health Programs and/or Public Health Hygienist at the WVU HSC, Eastern Division’s Dental Program. Accompanies the Dentist to school visits and transcribes information provided. Provides office assistance in preparing paperwork for the follow-up after said school visits. Provides oral health education to school-age children under the direction of the Dentist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent

1. Assist providers during patient examination and treatment as instructed

2. Greets patients and prepares for exam by ensuring patients are properly seated, draped and aligned for examination

3. Transfers dental instruments and supplies to provider during treatment.

4. Maintains a clean, dry oral operating field by using high velocity evacuation systems

5. Prepares, mixes, measures and dispenses various materials as instructed during dental procedures

6. Ensures all equipment is clean, sanitized and disinfected at all times

7. Obtains dental supplies and instruments from stock area

8. Prepares and arranges dental instruments, materials and medication for use during patient care

9. Ensure that all instrumentation is sterilized by appropriate methods

10. Returns instruments and equipment to appropriate area

11. Sets up and assists with a wide variety of highly specialized patient care procedures in a high specialized patient care environments

12. Records treatment procedures or other information within the electronic record, obtaining prompt electronic provider approvals as necessary

13. Provides administrative support and assistance as needed in order to meet the operational needs of the clinics.

1. Must meet Department of Labor’s MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly)

2. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for a 8 to 10 hours shift

1. May be scheduled to work various shifts based on departmental and patient needs.

2. Will be expected to work offsite with the Dentist in schools through-out Berkeley and Jefferson Counties.

3. May be required to travel between facilities/buildings.
