Overview
AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Planning Engineer / Senior Planning Engineer to support the delivery of major high-rise residential, commercial, hospitality, mixed-use, and large-scale building developments in Madinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The successful candidate will be responsible for project planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, delay analysis, reporting, forecasting, and project controls activities throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires extensive experience in managing complex building construction schedules and working closely with clients, contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Your role
- Review and assess contractors' baseline schedules for compliance with contract requirements, project milestones, construction methodologies, and approved phasing plans.
- Evaluate master programmes, detailed construction schedules, procurement schedules, design schedules, and commissioning programmes.
- Ensure project schedules reflect realistic construction sequencing and resource allocation strategies.
- Monitor project progress against approved baseline programmes and identify deviations from planned performance.
- Develop and review short-term and long-term look-ahead schedules to support efficient project execution.
- Analyze critical paths, float consumption, schedule risks, constraints, and project dependencies.
- Monitor and validate contractor-reported progress through site inspections, progress measurements, and stakeholder coordination.
- Review and verify weekly and monthly progress reports submitted by contractors.
- Develop schedule performance analyses and management reports for project leadership and client review.
- Prepare executive summaries highlighting key project achievements, schedule concerns, risks, and mitigation measures.
- Establish and maintain project dashboards, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and progress tracking systems.
- Monitor engineering, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover activities to ensure alignment with project milestones.
- Conduct schedule impact assessments and delay analyses using industry-recognized methodologies.
- Evaluate delays related to design changes, variations, procurement issues, authority approvals, site constraints, and contractor performance.
- Support Extension of Time (EOT) reviews and preparation of planning-related contractual assessments.
- Review contractor recovery programmes and acceleration plans.
- Participate in claims analysis and provide planning support for dispute resolution and commercial assessments.
- Support project controls processes including forecasting, progress measurement, productivity monitoring, and change management.
- Identify schedule risks and recommend mitigation strategies to enhance project performance.
- Monitor project recovery actions and assess effectiveness of corrective measures.
- Coordinate with commercial and project controls teams to align schedule forecasts with cost and resource projections.
- Support risk workshops and project performance reviews.
- Coordinate with Resident Engineers, Construction Managers, Project Directors, Contractors, Consultants, and Client Representatives.
- Participate in weekly and monthly progress meetings and stakeholder workshops.
- Support project leadership in addressing schedule-related issues and project risks.
- Facilitate coordination between architectural, structural, façade, fit-out, and MEP disciplines.
- Ensure planning activities comply with project procedures, contractual requirements, and industry best practices.
About you
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related engineering discipline.
- Primavera P6 Certification or equivalent planning certification is highly preferred.
- PMP Certification is an advantage.
- Professional memberships with recognized engineering institutions are desirable.
- 15 to 20 years of professional planning and project controls experience.
- Minimum 10 years of planning experience on major building construction projects.
- Experience in consultant, PMC, or client organizations is preferred.
- Previous Saudi Arabia or GCC project experience is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience throughout the complete project lifecycle from planning and design through construction, commissioning, and handover.
